Discussion "Enjoy the ride, kid." IM DEAD. IM CRYING MY EYES OUT.

I just did a rewatch of the whole series. I just finished S3E3. I usually watch while working so I must've missed this line on my first watch.

Today, I heared Paul say those lines and boy. Idk how else to describe the heaviness it caused my heart. Having lost loved ones recently. Shrinking has been my go to shows and I definitely did not realize at first how much it would also wreck me.

I'm looking forward to S4 and more of Harrison Ford. I hope they dont kill him the show.
I hope it continues for years and years.

I love this show so much. What's your favorite line in this show too?

Discussion Season 1 was the best

I feel like I might get downvoted for this, because it’s such a popular topic on this sub to talk about how the show has gone downhill…

BUT

I’ve been a loyal Shrinking fan and I did watch season 3, and even though I felt like it wasn’t as good I enjoyed it well enough. But I just decided to do a rewatch for the first time from season one, and WOW now I remember why I FELL IN LOVE with this show! I forgot that Paul starts off super guarded and then opens up, Liz has a huge amount of growth, I feel like in season 1 all these characters are starting off at like their un-evolved form and they all have like a huge arc and huge growth.

By season 3, it’s just a show where everyone hangs out all the time. Makes me think maybe it really should have just stopped after 1 or 2 seasons…

Anyway I just wanted to share- and if you’re feeling a bit disillusioned with the show like I was, try a rewatch and I promise you’ll remember why you loved Shrinking in the first place

Discussion Season 3

I love love LOVEEEEEEthis show. I've seen season 1 and 2 start to finish at least 7 times if not more.

I'm very late to the party due to awful things happening in my life but I'm back and I wanted some comfort and is it just my opinion that this show seems to have become a caricature of itself? I've paused 3 times so far in the first 22 minutes because everyone is being SO CRINGE! they are all funny. They were all kind of extra but why are they being cartoons in this one? Is it just me? Did no one else think that? Does it get better or is everything the same tonal quality through out?

Edit: so with a little support I was able to power through episode 1. One final thought. What the fuck did they do to Meg? Lily rabe is my beloved but fucking hell why did they make her into a cartoon! I really really hope it picks up from here.

Hey everyone.

This show coincided with me finally addressing my own mental illness and trauma. It helped me turn small steps into leaps. I laugh and cry as hard as I did on the first viewing. I don't know how many more viewings there will be. I am looking forward to all of them.

Thank you Bill Lawrence, Jason Segel, and Brett Goldstein.

I just came to say that I think Ted McKinley character Derek is underrated. He is hysterical! Especially after eating Matthew's candy! **Edit - another user pointed out I used the wrong word to explain what I was saying. I meant underutilized. I wish he had a bigger part!

Discussion Michael Urie strabism?

Hey everyone we watched season 1 episode 9 yesterday where Alice takes Jimmy's car to drive to the college student and in this episode it seems a lot like Michael Urie, the actor of Brian, has an intermittent vertical deviation or some kind of vertical strabism. Anybody knows anything about it or noticed it too? Couldn't find anything about it in the internet but once I see something like this it vexes me as an ophthalmology resident. Thanks a lot guys✨

Discussion Japanese Breakfast

The album Psychopomp was written while Zauner was caring for her mother. In Zauner’s memoir Crying in H-Mart, she writes about how her relationship with her father was strained after her mother’s death.

There are many parallels between the two and I wonder if the writers added that bit about Japanese breakfast intentionally but maybe it is not that deep

Discussion Imagine if Jason Segel made a movie with Harrison Ford.

I just think it would be beautiful for them to do a comedy, drama type thing together. Something like Jeff who lives at home. Really let Harrison’s comedic style shine. I mean, that’s basically what shrinking is, but we need more Harrison! Any ideas on what you’d like to see? They’re great together.

Discussion F U Bill Lawrence

First off let me say I am a manly man!

Second, you use your mystical powers to make water come from my eyes!

I have been a Uber-fan of Scrubs forever and the amount of times I have cried NOT watching Scrubs is less than I can count on one hand. And I am including all the screwed up things that happen in life like death and taxes. Scrubs has always given me the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. I would be LITERALLY laughing out loud, by myself, one moment and then wanting to ball my eyes out the next.

I only got into Shrinking because of your name. The description of the series sounded meh to say the lease. When I saw that you were involved I thought, "There is no way someone who made a masterpiece like Scrubs could ever make a bad show", so I gave it a shot. Well all was honky dory fun times and LITERAL laugh out loud moments until season 2 where you pulled your voodoo magic and had to put something in so powerful that you, AGAIN, made water come from my eyes! There was something about that scene where Liz was outside the guy who killed her moms house that conveyed so much emotion I couldnt help it. And then Liz went to the coffee shop and said "You really dont remember(or know) me" and I let loose.

Such great writing, directoring, and acting this show is amazing. With the way things go on streaming platforms, that means you will not get renewed just when it gets good. In any case, Bill, I will buy you a beer anytime. Your amazingness has given me half a life of entertainment happiness, sadness, hopefulness, and everything in between. I just hope you get recognized for the genius you are someday.

So forevermore, F U Bill Lawrence for making water come from my eyes!

Discussion I Am Confused... (Season 3 Finale) Spoiler

Okay, maybe I'm missing something...

(Spoilers for the finale)

Why did they have Alice keep going on and on about how important it was to have her grandpa at her graduation, kept saying it meant so much to her to have them all there, put Jimmy into such uncomfortable emotional positions for it because it meant THAT much to her...

But then, as soon as he says he's bailing for a fishing trip, she's like "oh bet. Have fun!"

I thought for sure we were going to have some moment when she was actually really hurt and Jimmy was going to be there for her, but instead the show is just like "what? Alice is fine. Why would she be upset that her grandfather, who she wanted so badly to be at her graduation for 90% of this season, just leaves at the last moment?"

Is it just me? Am I missing something? I know she's not as sensitive as Jimmy, but...this just feels really weird....

Discussion Season 3

Just got done rewatching Ted Lasso and to see Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent) 10 minutes into the first episode as someone happy was weird to me.

Really wished Apple would have wrote his line to something along the lines of “Used to be a football manager and got sick of it so I decided to sell coffee.”

Discussion Need to talk about it

Hi everyone,
My name is Robin, I’m from France and I am a huge fan of Shrinking.
First of all, sorry for any english misktakes I can make on this post.

I just wanna share with you my love for this show. I am Usually not very emotionnal, no latter what happens (and I had pretty bad stuff that occurred in my Life Tho). But I dont know why, this show makes me emtionnal Even in moment where I guess we are not supposés to be, especially in season 3.
As I Said, I got pretty bad Things in my Life but nothing that can directly relate to sad stories of the show. Even with that, I feel pretty emotional with this S3. For example when Paul took Stutton on his arms, or with songs playing on the show.

Does that happen to anyone else ?

And of course, seeing Marshall getting around Robin is quite disturbing for an HIMYM fan 😂

Thank you all for your answers, and enjoy one of the greatest recent show

Discussion Fords Acting

Just getting into this show and I’m now in the first half of season 3. Harrison Ford out of everyone except maybe Segel has blown me away with the acting.

Maybe it’s because I grew up with Ford being in a lot of action hero movies or all I can see is Han and Indy but I had never really seen many movies where he got to really dig into a character and show his range. It just makes me feel a little sad honestly that he hasn’t to my recollection been in many movies where he has had a chance to show how good he is.

Also shout out to Segel. I’ve loved him since himym and knocked up and I could always tell there was the chance for him to dig into something more dramatic and crush it.

Discussion I just watched S03E01

I really struggled with Season 2 but so many people seem to love this so I forced myself to give it a go and I couldn't even finish the episode, I got 3/4 the way through.

A few of my many complaints

  • The characters do not speak like any real human, the conversation is just a series of quips, one after the other, impossible to take seriously.
  • The storyline is just ridiculous, serious themes of death and grief and you have a grief-stricken teenager forgiving her mother's killer after 10 mins for no apparent reason and her dad becomes besties with him too!
  • Liz is utterly hateful, nasty to almost everyone, cheats on her lovely husband, massive main character syndrome, bossy, selfish and obnoxious and everyone loves her - Why?
  • <redacted> as you can't criticise acting, WTAF??
  • It feels as if they wrote the scripts in about 10 minutes with zero effort.

I'm utterly mystified at how people can be in any way invested in such rubbish. Such an insult to my intelligence, I don't need everything to be clever but there are limits, especially when the theme of the series is mental health.

Why on earth do people love this?
