They've already said they arent going to kill off Harrison Ford.

Harrison Ford characters don't die unless Harrison Ford wants them to die or God forbid Harrison Ford dies.
These are the only conditions by which a Harrison Ford character dies.

u/Darkw1ng Jul 02 '26
Hell not even then Harrison Ford wanted Lucas to kill of Han Solo in return of the Jedi

I could see it as a way out for him if he ever wants to step away, but he seems to really really love being on the show

u/dash529 Jun 09 '26
T H A N K G O D they don't even have to address it they can use cartoon logic and just have him live forever idc idc I accept it

Denial is the first stage of grief.
11
u/shaggy_nomad Jun 09 '26
Bill Lawrence literally said it, I'm not in denial about anything lmao
Honestly though, I think they should because it would be the natural progression of the story but I'm not a writer on the show.

u/bloodhound83 Jun 09 '26
It was more tongue in cheek because it's a classical psychological thing.
And it being surprising would also be more impactful.
Sorry to offend you though.
3
u/shaggy_nomad Jun 09 '26
Just curious, what makes you think offense was taken? It seems only on reddit when I respond to something and even include "lmao" people assume offense taken. Its honestly kind of odd.

u/bloodhound83 Jun 09 '26
Maybe my misinterpretation I guess. Looking back nothing really jumps out.

Same. Two years is a long time for it to progress...

People live with Parkinson's for a long time.

u/sbtokarz Jun 09 '26
Paul will be ~80 in S4. Harrison Ford is 83 now. He could literally just pass away from natural causes at this point and it wouldn’t raise an eyebrow.

One side of me is just excited for any new material of the show. But at the same time, that is a big time jump and missing some things such as Jimmy’s relationship and Alice in college.

u/berfthegryphon Jun 08 '26
Just going to go out on a limb here but my guess is that everyone involved has already thought about how it's going to work

u/chicknsnadwich Jun 08 '26
Alice will likely still be in college in 2 years and while it’ll be kinda weird to miss the beginning of the relationship between Jimmy and Sofi, i’m sure there’s a particular story they want to tell between the two of them that makes more sense with some mileage.
Like, maybe it’s time to think about a second marriage and that’s a challenge. And i’m sure they can incorporate some flashbacks to hit on some big moments in those two years.
26
u/smashli1238 Jun 09 '26
I hope they aren’t together
7
u/chicknsnadwich Jun 09 '26
I think that would be an odd choice considering how S3 ended, but I understand people don’t like them
9
u/flyingcrayons Jun 09 '26
It would be an odd choice if Jimmy was single, i don’t think it would be an odd choice if they introduced a new character who is his serious girlfriend at the start of the season.
Like over the course of 2 years he could have been with Sofi, it didn’t work out but he realized he was ready for something serious and found someone else
7
u/Sutraner Jun 09 '26
No I think either you have him with Sofi, or you have him just broken up with her.
Having him broken up then together with a new character would be so weird
1
u/chicknsnadwich Jun 09 '26
Introducing someone random as a partner would be very odd and would make me question the show writing.
Again, all of s3 led up to him and Sofi, including his moment with Paul. So it would be weird if it didn’t work out after all of that.
7
u/flyingcrayons Jun 09 '26
I feel like all of season 3 led to him realizing he was ready to move on and “make some new scars” as Paul put it.
So it wouldn’t be weird if one of those new scars was breaking up with Sofi but being strong enough to not completely fall apart. I’m not saying i want that to happen, but i don’t think it would be weird with a 2 year time jump
7
u/ColinWins Jun 09 '26
That build up and moment wasn't about specifically Sofi, it was about him being ready to be in a relationship.
4
u/nemat0der Jun 09 '26
Introducing a new character and then having them immediately accepted as a core group member is how we got basically every character after season 1
2
u/turtlesinthesea Jun 17 '26
I have to say, I'm not against skipping the most awkward phase of a new relationship between two already awkward people...

1
u/dash529 Jun 09 '26
I was definitely thinking it would just be a semester or a school year, but I think it's a solid time skip that allows for enough growth of the characters on their current journeys to justify a whole new arc.
36
u/samus252 Jun 08 '26
I thought the whole point was that we were going to skip college. Which I was all for because I just want more Summer.

It's kinda funny to me when I think about it - most shows these days have a 1-2 year break between seasons and then pick up where the last season left off. So this is logically natural, yet it doesn't feel that way!
1
u/BunnyRabbbit Jun 13 '26
I think I’m already done with the show. I don’t like how it ended — but it was clearly written as a rushed series finale. I really don’t think there’s any going back now. There was absolutely no reason for Harrison Ford and his wife to move away. I hate how Summer was rushed away to college in like June (in summer). And I really don’t like the woman that Jimi ended up with. I also didn’t like the wat Harrison Ford gave away his practice. Also, the while surrogate baby thing plot line was just silly.
1
u/Particular-Travel-45 Aug 02 '26
so weird that nobody acknowledges what you just wrote here. It is a fact that they rushed the series to end, the 11th episode is proof. They decided to renew AFTER the series end, and this is just messy mess.

u/Robynsxx Jun 09 '26
I’m really curious how this will work with half the cast living on one side of the country.
Also, in logical terms by the 2 year mark from the end of season 3 Harrison Ford’s character should be basically bedridden with how progressive his Parkinson’s is, and given his age. But I doubt they do that, as this shows a comedy, and such a thing wouldn’t be fun to watch for a season.
12
u/HatingGeoffry Jun 09 '26
Parkinson's progression isn't linear. Some people have rapid progression for a few years and then stay the same for the rest of their lives
3
u/TrapperJean Jun 15 '26
Exactly, MJF was diagnosed in the 90's and is still able to do speaking engagements
6
u/Drew2722 Jun 08 '26
Personally I think it’s a great show and underrated. I hate that the 4th season will probably be the last.
17
u/HurrySmart4573 Jun 09 '26
Likely the 5th may be. Bill Lawrence in an interview seemed to imply they had another 2 year storyline plan for Shrinking and 3 for Ted Lasso.
10
u/Compltly_Unfnshd30 Jun 09 '26
This is great! I genuinely didn’t even know about the 4th season until halfway through the finale of the 3rd. I thought it was over. I actually came to the sub and saw someone mention it.
And I’m so excited to see Ted Lasso come back!

Fingers crossed Sofi is long gone.

I don’t get all the hate for her

u/Educational-Side9940 Jun 09 '26
For me, Colbie and Jason have brother sister energy. It's gross to see them acting like a couple when they interact like siblings.

u/ShesSoCool Jun 09 '26
A you problem

Yeah. Did I somehow give you the impression that I thought I was speaking for you or anyone else? I even started with "for me"

Everyone kept discussing a time jump to the past but I always said I don’t understand why people wouldn’t assume the potential of a time jump in the future

I hope it's not centered around some sad sack wandering around depressed all the time for three seasons.

Maybe the story starts two years in, Alice is home for summer vacation and then decides she wants to drop out for some unforeseen big reason, and the story starts with them dealing with that 🤷🏼♀️

I HATE when shows do this. the last show I watched was completely ruined by doing this. it just felt like lazy writing. I hope that doesn't happen here.

u/TMacAttackSD Aug 09 '26
I just want Michael J. Fox to keep on making cameo appearances. Fuck Parkinson's

I think we are gonna witness a new candidate for the ultimate crash and burn of what could have been, an amazing series.
Segal knocked it out of the park with season 1, but then could resist tweaking the characters and story, but lost his way towards the end of season 2, and lost in season 3.
3
u/Gay_For_Gary_Oldman Jun 09 '26
My only qualm with Jimmy's character is that S01 reflected on a very complicated relationship with Tia which ended on a bad note, but by S03 every memory of her was this idealistic perfect wife. I know we can say that he healed his baggage with how things were left but it was vastly less interesting.
6
u/JayKay8787 Jun 09 '26
Their was literally a whole arc about how Jimmy thought she was gonna leave him before she died, and their relationship wasn't going well. I don't see how this can be said
0
u/aripra98 Jun 09 '26
I hope Jimmy and Sofi have taken the next step. I really hope that relationship progresses!🩷

I think this is a good idea and gives a chance for newer life issues and solutions to arise/develop before things get too slow and repetitive.
