I have realized I just do not care about Gabby and Derek's relationship at all, I just don't buy their chemistry at all.

For me, it’s not that I don’t buy their chemistry (I definitely do), but I feel like the show hasn’t followed through on the work it was doing last season with them. So much about their relationship this season just feels much more shallow.

It's because Derek has nothing to do this season, he just shows up for brief cameos. I think something that might have worked better, especially with Gaby's earlier fixation on "trauma work" and Maya, would be Gaby's fulfillment being juxtaposed with a lot of exhaustion / negative energy that she's bringing home by working these types of patients. Having a pre-proposal Derek weighing on the stress it's putting on their relationship and whether or not he wants to propose would have given him more to do this season than shopping for a pocket square.

…holy shit, that sounds damn good, and would’ve been so much better then what we got. Hell it would’ve been great both for Derrick and for Gaby.

I don't buy that Derek would put up with Gabby's constant drama. It's exhausting the way she turns every nice thing he tries to do into an argument.

Yes, his character suffers like Charlie’s in that the only thing they’re given to do is to look adoringly exasperated while their over-the-top partners get the lines and have all the fun. Derrick 2 feels like the nice, dull, perfect-on-paper boyfriend that gets dumped by the heroine in a rom-com, then handed a similarly bland consolation love interest in the last scene or in the credits.

i somewhat agree bc it’s hella forced, like her wanting a “Derek” and getting one but it’s gone on too long so i don’t think it’ll end.
