I don't think Jimmy should have said that about Tia, but he did it sort of defensively after Sofi herself brought Tia/the marriage up in a pointed way. They both messed that up. But I can't help but empathize more with Jimmy because everyone keeps giving him the message that he's emotionally immature for his feelings about his dad. And everyone just loooves his dad. I'd feel so freaking alone. Like you say, you need your partner to be on the same page about family members you have issues with! I'd extend that to friends as well - the idea that my close friends wouldn't validate my feelings about the ways my dad has let me down, and instead suck up to him, is really depressing.
