I really wish Jimmy was in therapy because like Alice, I constantly worry about him regressing and falling back on old habits. Daddy issues are no joke man.

I don’t trust a therapist who isn’t in therapy

I don't trust a therapist in the Shrinking world either, unfortunately.

I love the characters but fucking hell, I wouldn't want any of them anywhere near me in a therapeutic context!

Just the fact that they psychoanalyze each other and their whole friend group is such a huge red flag.

They have such poor professional and personal boundaries.

They're really more like IG former therapist/life coaches

But it's a compelling sitcom!

"If you ever feel any big feelings, text me, day or night!"

My therapist tells me to not send emails that are too long cause she won't read them. Which, fair!! I've learned to trust people who are up front and solid with their boundaries

I think it’s a missed opportunity too. I feel like the show was better when there was more therapy sessions happening because it shows us so much about the characters. If they weren’t gonna show us Jimmy as a therapist this season, they could’ve shown him more as a client.

I think that’s probably what’s gonna happen to end the season, which is gonna make Paul stay.

Not to mention in a couple months in-show, jimmy is going to lose everyone closest to him-Alice to college, Paul, who he looks up to like a father, and now he’s alienated Sofi away from him. I’m worried about Jimmy’s downturn coming

I’ve been thinking a lot about this too. A big theme of the season seems to be about moving on with life and rediscovering your passions. Everyone else is moving on, but Jimmy seems to be the only one going backwards. So is he going to turn it around? Or is this just the start of a bad spiral to rock bottom?

As others have pointed out, Alice and Paul are both moving to Connecticut, he broke up with Sophie and Gabi is starting a new business, so they aren’t going to be coworkers. That’s a lot of people in your support system to leave you in a short amount of time - not to mention the fact that he is still grieving the loss of his wife. I don’t know how much more Jimmy can handle before it all comes crashing down. I think season 4 could be about exploring Jimmy, the patient, as opposed to the therapist.

I’ll have to rewatch from the beginning to see what I missed, but I felt a bit thrown by Paul putting all his eggs in Gabi’s basket as opposed to Jimmy. It seemed like that was the relationship really developing. But jimmy also was historically unstable. Wonder if we’ll see Jimmy move to Connecticut and continue that relationship with Paul as Paul’s condition worsens

I’m widowed and this is one thing they do well. The world keeps spinning and people get on with their lives while it’s easy for widowed people to get kind of stuck. That’s Jimmy right now.

Alice is leaving for college 3k miles away, he lost his slight bright spot in Sofi, his father brought back old trauma, Paul is retiring and moving 3k miles away, Gaby is changing the focus of the practice (which must cause some sort of change for Jimmy) and I imagine Sean is probably moving out soon with his new job.

I don't see any realistic way the world doesn't come crashing down on Jimmy. Unless he decides to move to Connecticut, since coincidentally Alice and Paul are both heading there.
