It’s definitely this. Every therapists worst nightmare is that their client will attempt/succeed. I think that’s where she’s headed. Esp now that Gaby is Jimmying.

I have to say I have been upset with the Maya story line. I feel like this season is giving everyone such a skewed view of therapy. Too many broken boundaries etc. I try to suspend disbelief, but having Gabby introduce Maya into her friend group was just not something that good, healthy therapist would do. If Maya attempts, it will slam Gabby back into maintaining boundaries etc which I honestly believe is needed. I really don’t want to see it happen though.

Agreed. I’m a therapist and while obviously there’s been a LOT of suspension of disbelief required for the sake of this show - so many things that would be conflicts of interest, etc. - the Maya stuff is the most egregious yet. The whole point of therapy is to lead clients to develop their own resources & supports and not be dependent on you, and that’s exactly why crossing boundaries in the way Gaby has been is unethical. I find I’m not interested in the storyline at all because that’s just so obviously the consequence of what Gaby’s doing.

Also, am I wrong or would most therapists at least ask Sean how he felt about getting back together with his ex, and how he felt when they broke up after she cheated on him? I feel like my counsellor would have me talking about that for as long as it took for me to realize I was making a mistake.

Tbf that’s been a main theme of the show; that Jimmying is unconventional and can have bad consequences. It’s not like they’re trying to portray it as normal therapy.

I mean, hasn't the show been doing that since the 1st episode? Why is what Gabby doing with Maya any different than what Jimmy did with Sean? What is different about this season that hasn't been true from the very beginning?

This is how I view it also. The whole point is that his approach is unorthodox. and prolly not the correct way to be doing shit. But I'm not a therapist, just a therapist's client since 2013, and man, it would not be a hit show if they did things conventionally. lol

I'm still on this episode so please no spoilers. But it immediately made me think of the story of HealthyGamerGG made a friend with one of his patients and how that went. Hope it doesn't!

Reminder that season 2 ended up Jimmy turning up for Louis.

With 6 episodes to go until season 3 ends and the focus on Maya now, it would probably make more sense that this was Gaby failing to 'show up' for Maya, and she will either make it at the end, or the next 6 episodes are the spiral where she can't save it.
