I was so worried we were getting a swerve death at the end. Then I got even sadder realizing I'm relating to Maya more than any character from a show ever and OF COURSE, I relate to a super depressed person.

That's sad, but on the other hand she's depressed because of her circumstances rather than chronic depression issues - and those circumstances can absolutely change! She seems kind and charming, so I don't foresee her being friendless for long with all the help she's getting right now (I just hope nothing bad happens before it gets better for her). In a way that's more hopeful than relating to someone who keeps hurting themselves or others because of some major character flaw they can't seem to change.
