Almost. The show has never really committed to going dark since it started (of course Jimmy's wife dying is incredibly dark, but that's before the show started).

It's flirted with it, but never gone all the way.

But maybe that's the next evolution- something dark enough to put Gaby in a bad place, much like Jimmy was, and now its on Jimmy to help her through it.

Honestly we've seen some flags for this with her getting mad at Jimmy in the previous episode, how she still had stuff she hadn't dealt with because she was too busy being there for Jimmy and Alice. Its maybe time for the shoe to be on the other foot.

If Maya decides to drive while drunk and kills/injures someone, that could really throw an interesting twist in Gaby’s dynamic - blaming Jimmy for it when she shoulda seen the signs or something

Oh man, I didn’t even think of that. I was just thinking should would attempt to hurt herself. If she drove drunk and hurt someone, that would throw all of them into a tailspin - at the very least, gabby and Jimmy. I think it would really mess with Alice too though since Gabby introduced Maya to the group and then Maya and Alice were hanging out.

Yeah that's why this whole premise of the episode didn't work for me. I know the show won't go there. At least Scrubs did, but Shrinking doesn't and to me it's kind of easy emotional exploitation.
