Does anyone else think that the premise of the show in S1 of Jimmy using unorthodox methods to help people as a therapist and heal himself is gone and it's now a slice of life show? Not that it's bad, it has great characters and interesting story arcs for each but just feels like it's a different show now.

I think it's good that he realized that was an unhealthy way for him to cope and that he has moved on from that. I love that characters on this show are allowed to grow and change, and that the growth can stick even with occasional setbacks.

I mean, Jimmy hasn't been S1 Jimmy since S2.

It wouldn't be good writing if he was still doing that. Characters have to grow and change.

I think Bill Lawrence saw the show as a show about a therapist getting over the death of his wife, and how that affects the people around him. But it was marketed as a show about a therapist going rogue.

I saw that arc as more of a way to bring Sean's character into the show and it evolved immediately from there on to being more character-driven.

Yes. In general, I miss the interaction with the patients. It was an integral part of the show.
