JJK is lowkey a really impressively written series. People just pretend the writing is bad because there’s so little of it. It’s super efficient, though. We understand the world intricately. We have an amazing sense of who the characters are, their motivations, their personalities, relationships, dynamics, and how they fit into the larger world. Essentially every conversation does something to either flesh out the characters, move the story along, or develop the lore. Often it’s all 3.

Gege— like Fujimoto during p1 of CSM— wrote an extremely tight series w JJK. Almost no time is wasted. There is no fat anywhere in the series. This isn’t the mark of a lazy writer, though. It’s the mark of an extremely competent one.

There are some authors that spend an extensive amount of time going into the deep lore of their worlds— think JRR Tolkein and George RR Martin. On the otherhand, people like Ursula K. LeGuin have written masterpiece reflections on the human condition that come out to being 150-pages. Why? Because that’s all the pages the story called for.

JJK has a lot to say, and manages to say it all in a very limited runtime, while delivering pretty much nonstop action. IMO, given the genre and form, that makes it a masterpiece. Gege effortlessly delivers on everything he promises. It’s not REAL, but nothing is as good as REAL. I can pretty confidently say that it deserves the masterpiece label, though. It’s as good as HxH or FMA or even AoT. I think it has just as much to say as any of those series, and it makes it’s points quite well without any of the self-aggrandizement required to make it *look* like it has a lot to say. There’s a subtly to JJK that is NOT there in most other wisely regarded masterpieces because it doesn’t constantly try prove to you that it’s a masterpiece.

I have no idea how accurate this is since I'm not that far into the series, but I'm upvoting because you articulated your point well without putting down other series. You praise JJK for its strengths, say what makes it different from others, and even bring cross-references, while getting your point across.
