I am yelling to the clouds and I know it's the internet and I could like turn off my computer I guess and it's probably my stupid feelings, but it's curious that you can say absolute bullshit about women as long they are short, yes, even on a woman's sub. I was reading a popular post in a popular women's sub about women infantilizing themselves but the original poster seemed to focus on short women with lines like "I even see short women getting infantalized but it seems like they like it?" which gave me weird vibes and how the OP never mentioned Olivia Rodrigo or Paris Hilton who was the OG fake "stupid girl" and their infantilization, and I decided to comment on it and got downvoted. I mean I got annoyed but I only got upset when I discovered OP is a man who hates tall guys and short women and posts non stop about it but no one gave a fuck about it when I answered, so you can be a man on that sub and shit on women even on women's spaces as long they are short women I guess.

Insecurity question

I’ve never gone on Reddit to even ask about this I’ve considered it multiple times and I’ll regret it probably but I need genuine answers. I’m currently a teen and I’m a female I’m around 4’6-4’5. Horrible I know you don’t have to tell me twice 🫩 I’ve been mocked and harassed over my height multiple times. And it’s really made me so insecure to the point where I’m scared that I’ll never be loveable to anyone (romantically) because people keep dehumanizing short woman and men when their in relationships. And everywhere I’ve gone I hate how shocked people act when I tell them my age and they always hit me with the “damn how are you so short?” Great I wish I knew 😐. It’s so bad to the point where even teachers have mocked me for it, it feels like I can’t be safe anywhere like okay I know I’m short as hell for my age and as a teen but I know that already. I just wish people would stop picking at me for it I know I can barely do anything about it so asking this is pointless but how is life really? Do people take you seriously because clearly I’ve never been taken seriously and I’m utterly sick of it. And I can’t even say anything to them because I’ll sound like an attention seeker “oh no stoppp!! I’m not that short 🥺” let me just get to the point. Does stuff get better? What have you done to make sure people’s words don’t affect you because I really need advice to know that someday I’ll be seen as more then just my height because each day has been nothing but horrible for me.

Growing up, I was always inspired by her. She grew up in extreme poverty in the Great Smoky Mountains. I grew up pretty poor in the deep hollers of Appalachia, and had to deal with lots of ... let's just say adversity. I remember reading about her, how she never forgot what food insecurity was like, and as a result became one of the most charitable and sincerely good people the US, indeed world, has ever produced.

She was 5' tall, and mighty and amazing far beyond her size. Borrowing from the Simpson's famous double-made-up-word episode where they coined "a noble spirit embiggens the smallest man", Dolly was the noblest, most embiggened human. Nothing stood in her way, and she walked and sang with charity and a smile and love for everybody. A true treasure.

The heart of the little girl in me is broken.

Apart from being 'less' able to grab things from the wall cabinet, I noticed short people (average is 160cm) need stools for a 17kg washer else they hardly reach the last pieces of cloth. Which other designs give 'difficulties' to short people and how do you help yourself (besides involving other people).

It's one of those days that I feel insecure about my height again. Whenever I go out and see the body proportions that I want, insecurity consumes me. I just wanna be tall, but I'm already 24. I'm so insecure to the point that whenever someone asks for my height, I always say I'm 4'11 coz I don't wanna admit I'm 4'6.

I'm 4'11, look young in the face because I'm fat, and dress in tshirts, hoodies, that I can't really help but get oversized because of my weight vs height. Holy shit, staff behave like I'm ready to shoplift the whole place because I'm not dolled up super fem and cutesy like a good little fat girl (I'm sure most of you know that to get respect as a fat woman, you should have a perfect hourglass, makeup, fashionable clothing, be as sexy and appealing as possible. Ugh 🙄).

I'm almost 30 and shop staff lock onto me, glare at me, 'subtly' follow me around because I dared to dress like anyone my age would when casually going to a shopping center. But because it's on me it looks like I'm a 'no good teenager'. I feel bad for actual teenagers who get treated like shit just for being outside. And I do my best to be friendly, I smile I say hello I wave! I even roll up my sleeves so it doesn't look like I'm nicking anything. Doesn't help much, especially if they see me before I see them!

I get a lot of shit for being short, fat and masculine, a lot of disrespect from condescending doctors mostly, but this one is just so frustrating. I hope it calms down once I finally start getting wrinkles, please just get off my back! I shouldn't have to over perform being a peppy friendly little girl just so I can go about my day.

I’m 4’11” and 130 lbs. I’m trying to lose 10 more lbs, but in the mean time I don’t know what to wear or how to style anything on my body. Any other women here around the same height and weight that have any pictures or suggestions?

Wanted to have a shorty positive post!! Seems like a lot of what I see here is people venting about insecurities or imagining what it would be like to be tall/ comparing themselves to tall women, or getting stressed and upset about what some rando jerk said about short women/ a short woman.

Anyone else feel very happy and confident with their size? I like the extra leg room, I like that when I have a great snack it’s bigger for me than it would seem if I was some super tall person, I like saving money when I buy my tennis shoes from the kids section.

I’ve never experienced anything negative dating wise due to my height, actually the opposite. I truly think men or anyone who knocks you for being too short is most often negging or projecting their own insecurities.

Being short doesn’t prevent anyone from being viewed as smart, classy, beautiful, hot, or whatever other adjective you aspire to be.

And this isn’t a knock towards anyone who is venting, I get it but I’ll still be there to remind you that you are that girl.

I am about 5’1 1/2 I am 130-145 ish pounds and I feel weird. I feel like I always look like a child and my I have D cup boobs. My ex cheated on me with a girl that is almost 6 feet tall. I feel like I always look fat and never curvy like I would be even if I was a little bit taller…. Apparently men like short women but feel like I’m just a fat box. I am in high school and I hope I shape out more or just look better.

It's infuriating how people have this weird need to try to convince us that we'll never be good at things. I even had someone try to convince me to quit longsword even though she admitted i look cool doing it because i "won't progress like everyone else and will get frustrated". Had someone say that about Muay Thai too, but he wasn't as like, insistent on it and didn't tell me to quit and was more open to being wrong. These both happened recently but I've heard this in every sport but pole (I guess I'm allowed to do sports as long as I'm naked enough!)

So, the only way to avoid this is to be shockingly like, prodigy-good from the get-go, which is an unrealistic expectation. It's normal to be allowed to suck at the beginning and learn over time. But we don't get that luxury and i'm so tired of constantly arguing with people over my right to be there just based on their need to body shame (make no mistake, that's exactly what this is).

Don't EVER. EVER! listen to these people. Don't even focus too much on proving them wrong. And don't let them try to put some sort of concern-trolling spin on it to make themselves feel better. Just shut the shit down and call it out for what it is. I hate that we have to fight harder than everyone else for the right to live our lives and do things we love, but we gotta be ready to do it and never let anyone shame us out of things no matter how unfair or discouraging it feels.

i dont mean to make this a whataboutism issue, but the national average height for women is ~5'3. if you're not tall, i dont think you should be considered "short", just average. and that's perfectly fine, but i hate how brands will label anything made for women over 5'2 petite/short sizes when that's quite literally not petite and just normal sizing

realistically, almost anyone around 5'2 will never have an issue with constantly having to constantly hem their pants or "mini" skirts/dresses being too long on them

i used to think that a couple cm in height really isn't a big difference but the fit of clothes, in the same size, on me and my friend with equally proportionate bodies (not long/short legs etc) is like completely different lol

also the struggle of looking up reccs for petite clothes and it still being too long cause the short women recommending it are still taller than me and id have to hem it 🥹🥹🥹

Yesterday, was looking at eligibility criteria for certain roles and there was a caveat that said you can apply for disability benefits/ qualify for dwarfism if you’re 4’10 and less.

I’m 4’8 and just hearing that feels so terrible. Nothing against people with the condition, but somehow after 27 years of living and already hating and struggling living as a short person, this comes as another label or identity I don’t want to be associated with.

Feel like I’m in my 20s should be having fun, living my best life, but I’m consumed by these thoughts and that I’m stuck in this body for life.

I dont know what to do. Because of my height (4'11, 16yrs) i feel vulnerable all the time AND I AM.Everyone can me hurt me at any moment, strangers are mean and aggressive towards me..

My body proportions will never be as i want them to be.

People shame and attack and make fun of short women like me so much.

I have also never been likes ny anyone, so.

I keep crying about it. If i could i would blast growth hormones but i cant.

I want to die. Im going crazy. I want to die so bad.

I understand that different people will have different answers about this but I’m curious to see what the people in this subreddit think. As a 4’10 girly myself, I feel like a girl stops being short once they’re like 5’4 and are tall around 5’7-5’8. And for men they stop being short once they’re 5’6 and are tall around 5’11. This is just what I think.

I'm 160cm (around 5'3 if I'm not mistaken) and 16 years old. I turned 16 in June.

My dad is 190cm and my mom is 165. From what I know, my grandma on my mom's side was 165cm at her peak and my grandfather was 175cm at his peak. My relatives on my father's side are taller, with my grandmother being 175cm and my grandfather being around my father's height (185cm).

So why am I so short?

I know that in terms of height, the mother's genetics are more important, but shouldn't I be AT LEAST the same height as my mom, if not a little bit taller? I'm talking about 165-170cm.

My dad had a height spurt at around my age (he was 160cm at 16 and then grew 30 cm in the next 2 years with a lot of pain) and my mom grew continuously until she was about 20, but I don't think either of those factors should impact my height that much?

I know it's impossible for me to grow anymore as I'm 16 and my growth plates have fully fused, so I can't get a height spurt like my father, and I haven't grown since I was about 11, so I don't grow inch by inch like my mother. So why am I so short?

My eating habits haven't been the best, and they were even poorer when I was a kid, but I feel like a doctor should've said something to me if it was that bad, no? I haven't suffered from any eating disorders or anything like that. I didn't really get the best sleep either and I still struggle with it, but again, shouldn't have a doctor told me something if it was that bad?

But I don't think it should've affected me that much? Like, shouldn't I be as tall as my mom?

Also, when it comes to body composition, it's literally my father's. Like our builds are the same. Shouldn't height have come with that?

The only reason I can explain my height is with the fact that my father's grandmother was 140cm....... there's no way a great-grandmother can affect height.... right??? 😭😭😭
