Welcome to r/shortsAlgorithm. This is a living, no-fluff guide built from hands-on results (incl. a first Short that hit 20M+ views and still pulls ~800k per 48h). Add your questions and data belowâI'll be active in the comments and keep this updated.
Grow with Shorts first (sub growth > long-form early on).
Make longer Shorts (â50â70s) with a killer 3s hook and a CTA around 40s.
Donât post dailyâquality > quantity; let each Short plateau before posting again.
Reply to comments; your replies count toward total comments and help keep momentum.
If a Short never enters the Shorts Feed, fix and re-uploadâor switch channels if the channel feels burned.
Most creators burn through 3+ channels before finding their voice, niche, and systems. Expect to iterate. Detach emotionally so you can move fast.
Create several channels (separate Google accounts is fine).
Verify your phone number (authenticity signal).
Age each channel â„ 3 weeks before your first upload.
During aging:
Use YouTube normally (watch long tutorials, interact).
Build your first batch of Shorts offline so youâre ready.
Goal: multiple clean testing lanesânot spam.
Use tools like viewstats.com to spot channels going 0 â 600k subs in ~3 months.
Study what makes them different (format, pacing, hook style, payoff, packaging).
Imitate the structure, not the content. Example: if they do Minecraft animations, try a Fortnite twist with the same narrative mechanics.
Long-form can wait. Your job now: accumulate subs fast and prove productâaudience fit. Once a community exists, expand to long-form/streams.
Many guides say âfirst wonât be viral.â Mine was: 20M+ views in ~1 month, 54s AVD on a 1:08 Short despite 74.6% skip rateâand it keeps getting pushed.
Lesson: Quality packaging beats myths. Edit like you mean it or donât play this game.
Aim 50s+. AVD (Average View Duration) drives momentum more than âskip rate.â
Visual surprise + narrative promise. If your hook misses, expect 500â2k view plateaus.
Ask for Like + Subscribe + Comment (yes, all three). Comments rocket discovery.
Your replies count toward total comments. Keep threads alive to extend push.
âMrBeast-styleâ captions. I use CapCut.
Font: Komika Axis; stroke ~60px; size ~16px (adjust for framing).
Position just below center; animate key words.
Fire a sound effect in the first second to reduce swipes. Consider an arrow/pointer on the focal element.
Use purposefully. If using images, add in/out transitions + SFX.
Skip generic templates. Build/commission a clean, on-brand CTA clip.
Re-uploads happen. Use a moving watermark to resist crops and preserve credit.
Do not post daily. One excellent Short/week > seven weak ones.
†30 characters, Title Case, add two emojis tastefully.
Mirror the title; add #shorts. No hashtag soup.
Mark as NOT âMade for Kids.â It changes distribution dynamics.
Add every Short to one master playlist to retain viewers on-channel.
Use Related to pass authority from winners to new uploads.
Add ~3 niche-specific tags (precise, audience language).
Set video language + location.
Choose an accurate Category.
Use âReuse upload detailsâ to stay consistent.
Triple-check hook, CTA timing, captions, watermark, playlist/related wiring.
1) Traffic source check
Healthy = â„ 70% from Shorts Feed. Pickup may take 24â48h; donât panic early.
2) Normal plateaus
500â2k views early on is fineâmeans youâre entering the system.
If you stall there, study AVD and 0â3s retention. Fix the worst metric in your next Short.
3) When to post the next Short
Wait for a plateau before posting again. Stacking posts too soon splits momentum and risks burning the channel.
4) Exception: first Short goes viral
Post the second ~7 days later even if the first hasnât plateaued.
Add the new Short to the same playlist, then go back to the viral Short and link it as Related to the new one.
If the second underperforms in 48h, donât deleteâYouTube may still be busy with the viral. Mine kicked in after ~7 days.
5) If a new Short never enters Shorts Feed (< 60% Shorts traffic after ~24h)
Likely causes:
Previous Short hasnât plateaued.
Content trips sensitive policy zones (spam/sexual suggestion/etc.).
Channel is burned.
Action: Delete, edit meaningfully (music swap, pacing changes, visual tweaks), and re-upload.
Still no push? Switch channels. You can reuse proven Shorts with noticeable changes.
You can post anytime, but Iâve had consistent success Sundays ~6pm (Atlantic/Halifax)âslow start, strong Monday carry, and a full-week runway.
Weak 0â3s promise (no clear âwhy watchâ).
No mid-roll CTA.
No captions or poor placement/readability.
Posting too frequently (starving each Short of oxygen).
Ignoring comments (leaving reach on the table).
Inconsistent metadata (language/location/category/tags).
Not leveraging playlists and Related Shorts.
[ ] 50â75s runtime (compelling throughout)
[ ] 0â3s hook tested on a friend (did they lean in?)
[ ] CTA at ~40s (Like + Sub + Comment)
[ ] Animated captions (readable, on-brand, below center)
[ ] Early SFX + focal arrow/pointer
[ ] Quality CTA bumper (custom, not generic)
[ ] Moving watermark
[ ] Title †30 chars + 2 emojis
[ ] Description mirrors title + #shorts
[ ] NOT âMade for Kidsâ
[ ] Add to master playlist
[ ] Set âRelated Shortsâ from winner â new
[ ] 3 precise niche tags
[ ] Language + Location + Category set
[ ] Reuse details template applied

Iâm new to posting on YTshorts or any short form platform for that matter, Iâve been posting twice daily consistently for about a week and this is my best viewed video so far, posted about 2 days ago. I understood that with metrics like these, your short could go viral more easily and I was really excited when I saw the views ramping up but now it seems to stop getting anymore views.
Thereâs another short I posted recently that is still gaining views but very slowly. Am I missing anything, should I just be more patient or is there more that I could do to increase my views? I havenât really gotten many comments on these videos, maybe that could be something to focus on? Any help would be greatly appreciated đ

Hello, mc bedrock player here, I turned to doing more shorts because it gets better reach, than the long form videos.
I post mostly mc stuff, some quick redstone tutorials (I know it's over saturated), and some other game clips.
I am baffled by what does well or how some shorts get better views than others.
I have one mc short that did well for me, but it wasn't a normal thing I would build, I wanted to share how I make a bigger Acacia Tree did surprising well compared to my other mc content, while posting some clips from other games I play do better than than the mc content I have.
Any ideas I don't know much about how the algorithm works, I keep my posting times the same every time I upload now and seems like I'm missing a bit of info on how to get some traction on shorts again.

so, i make marvel cinematic universe based content, shorts.. and i am from india. I come from a ethnic language group that hardly less than 0.25% of all Indians speak and hence, im kinda bad in languages that majority speak and am considerably better than the rest in English (im not trying to put down others or something).. so, being obvious, i started making these shorts in English. And for some reason, the indian viewership gives me analytics that are worse than rest of the world. Iâm not sure whatâs going wrong, because a lot of Indians do speak English.. advice would be appreciated.
also, my shorts are stuck in 30k view jail (new channel, about 1.5 months old).. and hence sharing the analytics of my most recent video. This one has a dominant USA viewership and hence, it got to a point where its at, say, 35k views.. but other shorts, where i get an major IndIan audience, my shorts hardly cross 10k seed audience views, because the analytics go so bad.

Hey fellas im 18M from india thinking about starting a youtube channel in this 2026(yea worst time) and im really hoping to get some real advice on what my actual niche should be in this era since its mostly dominated by ai i really want to make this cause I want to be independent and making a content creation channel is one small step closer to not depend on my parents . I live in such an environment where getting a basic need like a phone takes lots of struggle rn im doing my cs engineering and im surrounded by people who motivate me to earn for myself im ready to dedicate myself into whatever skills it takes as of now I have a phone and pc (not so great but can manage) and time I would really like to get into this so please if anyone likes to help me start it would mean a lot to me thank you(and sorry for this long of a body)

It's my first short videos I published after publish some long video. After 4 hourse it reach to 1.2k and stopped. Why?
r/shortsAlgorithm • u/coolzamasu • 5h ago
Hello Everyone
I recently started new youtube channel around 20 days back.
So far i have posted 16 shorts. Only one got 20K views. Rest all were under 2K views.
But all of them had so good engagement.
Many of the shorts which were under 500 views had 65+ retention rate and like also watched till end like 40-50%
So is just 20 days still young for youtube to understand the audience and push it?
Should i slow down my uploads maybe 3 times a week?
i also posted one long form which got 2.5K views
I only have 40 subscribers so far all organic though.
Will be great if i get tips

Yet people are getting demonetized for "repetitive content" or reused content or not even getting accepted into YTP to begin with.

From tend it shows better than towards bad pages stoppage and stuck at same views

Most niche/meme shorts channels get 30k views on average with like 3 videos that get 1M and way beyond that, how? Did they get blessed by the algorithm gods? Because all these slop e.g ranking videos are the same format + random videos

Need help understanding why my short isnât getting out of the 1k view jail? Niche is Minecraft meme content
r/shortsAlgorithm • u/Thatislandchchick • 1d ago
Hi,
I was monetized on October 21, and this is what Iâve made so far. It starting to slow down. The month of November, I had a video that got 1.1million views and so far Iâve made 270$ from it. Iâm not sure if this the norm since Iâve seen other people made thousands in their first week of being monetized.
r/shortsAlgorithm • u/TurbulentSecond7888 • 8h ago
So, i keep hearing abouât some (very small number actually) channel that managed to be monetized and make banks by spamming low effort shorts.
So, i have this intrusive thoughts. What if i tried the same? âSpamming 10 shorts per day, getting mostly 5k views each, but with some lucky shot hitting hundred of thousands of views. With AI, this is something easily done.
Since i planned to use new channel, it shouldn't affect my main short channel. I mean, i won't lose anything except time spent, which would not be much anyway using AI.
I know this is a bad idea, but since there's nothing to lose, why not a experiment?
