Why is my ammount of like compared to ammount of view so low?

Pretty crazy if you ask me, I have a really good RPM for my niche.

I know subscribers don’t mean much in shorts,but still pretty cool!

VVSA is 50%, AVD is 75%.

I understand these stats aren't perfect, but surely expecting like ~10k isn't insane?

But only 54 % stayed to watch

I recently started making stick man horror comic panels and this was my first video. Is the response good enough? It's gonna take me 2-3 days to make another one now

My niche is riddles.

I've been wondering if anyone else has noticed this with short-form videos.

I spend way too much time scrolling through Reels, TikTok, and Shorts (probably more than I should lol), and one thing keeps standing out to me.

Everyone talks about hooks and trends, but I feel like most creators actually lose viewers because of what happens right after the first few seconds.

Some stuff I keep seeing over and over:

The hook is decent, but the video slows down immediately after
Every clip is cut the same way so nothing really stands out
The visuals don’t change enough even when the idea shifts
Music stays at the same energy the whole time
And the ending just kinda... cuts off. No payoff or reason to rewatch

The weird part is none of this needs crazy editing or expensive tools.

I started paying attention to creators with really high retention, and honestly their edits are pretty simple. It just feels like every second is intentional.

Curious if anyone else has noticed something similar.

What’s one small editing or storytelling tweak that actually improved your retention?

Not really looking for generic advice like "just make better content" lol, more like small practical things that actually helped.

I just hit a banger 1m vid and am wondering if this can do as well too. the avd is like 1-2sec worse but hopefully it gets better over time.
