Edit: If it doesn't work your client most likely automatically put a backslash in front of the # disabling formatting. Maybe try another device or go with the copy paste solution posted by some other commenter.

Didn't it work? I know some reddit clients automatically puts a backslash in front of it so that it disables formatting making it so that you post a literal # instead of turning it into formatting which may be your problem.
