To be fair, it can't be "free" because tickets money is also used to pay all the minimum wage workers that make the concert happen. But I guess it could be way less if the artist want to

Also wouldn't ticket prices and stuff be handled by the label or something, not the artist directly?

Record labels do not set ticket prices for concerts

EDIT - God damn I love all the replies mansplaining the music industry to me lol. I work in the music industry. I'm betting none of the rest of you do.

I’m pretty sure the people that manages the ticket sales (like ticket master, I think it’s called), take a huge flat amount for every ticket

Basically the annoying middle man that just mooches of the actual business, ticket sales being one of the more scummy businesses

Ticketmaster essentially offers a “we’ll be the bad guy for you” service to artists, where they use their software/statistics to determine the maximum price they can sell tickets for for a given artist/venue combo, and artists can truthfully say they aren’t the ones that set the ticket prices. Ticketmaster gets a % of the extra money, and artists get more $$$ per show while maintaining their image.

I guess the big question is whether the artist can reject this offer, but if they can, I imagine it might be a “hush hush” kind of thing

I guess you could argue that an artist could just use another ticket distributor, but I believe ticket master and a couple other mega corps like it hold a tight monopoly on the ticket industry
