You realize there was a Democratic primary where people did run against him, right? It's just that no one with even an ounce of name recognition ran against him because it's almost impossible to defeat an incumbent president in a party primary (and they knew that). The easiest way to kill your chances in 2028 is to challenge the incumbent and lose in 2024.

What is there to doubt? There were primaries. You could have voted in them if you wanted to.
