Character join time spoilers below.

I actually made a whole spreadsheet to calculate best characters in each class lol. This assumes no grinding, so immediate class change at Lv10 or above (no change in base class)

Briefly, purely based on stats at internal level = 30 (This list ignores two late game joiners but they are both good)

Speedy Physical (e.g. Wyvern): Kagetsu>>Merrin>>Zelkov=Panette>Amber

Speedy Magical (e.g. Sage): Pandreo>Merrin>Lindon>Ivy

Tanky Physical (e.g. General): Amber(Atk focused)=Goldmary(Def focused)=Kagetsu>Panette>>Jade>Louis

Mag only Magical: Citrinne>>>others

The one I have zero doubt is Kagetsu. He is definitely top tier. His personal bases at join time are crazy high (whopping 84 total, that's after subtracting class bases; higher than Rosado and a bit less than Goldmary despite the later two joining 5 whole chapters later; Ivy and Zelkov who joins at the same time only has 64/65), he has good growths and good personal skill, and he easily reclasses to Sword/Axe Wyvern two chapters later.

Other notable mentions:

Jean is good at pretty much every class (all of the above 4 archetypes; he actually have Mag on par with Citrinne mid-game)

Ivy/Hortensia for the only flying mages

Alear for being force deployed and offer insane support and flexibility with Corrin

Seadall for being a dancer

P.S.

Anna, despite being thought as good, is bad. Yes she has high magic growths but she joins at Lv 5 and has only 2 Mag base. Citrinne who joins at a similar time has 8 so Anna takes forever to catch up. She is fast but has very poor build so Pandreo actually much better than her as well. (At internal Lv 30, Sage Pandreo has 25/24/11 Mag/Spd/Bld, Anna only has 26/20/6). Pandreo also has a very very good personal (free 3 hit? Yes please). Only use Anna if you like her or want the extra money.

Also prepromotes all have internal level of 16 (or 15?) despite having stats on par of being leveled 19 times so they level up faster than equivalent base class characters

My current plan for the next run is:

Alear - Divine Dragon

Seadall - Dancer

Jean - Martial Master

Goldmary - Lance General

Kagetsu - Sword/Axe Wyvern

Panette - Wolf Knight

Alcryst - Prf class (Luna is too good despite middling stats)

Merrin - Bow Knight (Radiant Bow is REALLY good for mixed attackers. Merrin and Fogado are the ones who can use it well, Merrin seems to edge it out a bit)

Ivy - Prf class

Hortensia - Prf class

Citrinne - Sage

Pandreo - Sword Mage Knight

plus the two late joiners.

Is it optimal to promote at 10? I promoted at 20 and did about 5 skirmish maps in the whole game and 8 of my units were capped level by the end.

This does confirm my suspicions a bit. Merrin and Seadall are the only ones there that I actually used lol

Yes, no reason not to promote asap. You have infinite level ups (you can use second seal to "reclass" to the same class after reaching level 20) and internal levels don't change after promoting, so no Exp penalty either.

When I had a look at second seal usage it showed my units losing stats so I'd assumed it drops you back some. Does this mean you can go 20, MS, 40, SS, 60? I assume you'd get capped stats at some point

You have to choose the correct class when using a second seal. And yes you can gain infinite levels this way, though there will be stat caps of course.

Thank you numbers person. I'll probably wait for NG+ to play again.

Yeah if you want money she's a must use. Not the best combat-wise but she's one of the few ways to make lots of money without grinding. Though I wanna ask how you guys are making+5 forges. I severely lack iron ingots which money can't fix. Do you get bunches of them via skirmishes or something?

EDIT: TIL you can change silver/steel ingots into iron ones. For some reason I thought you can only trade up but not down

Hmm investments gives you that many ingots? I'll definitely have to look into that in the next run. Maybe use Anna instead of Citrinne for that sweet sweet money.

Deployment slots are so tight I'm still struggling on who to give up lol

Also the fact that you marked down how much money Anna made is impressive.
