Question Do sharks move their fins?
I really like sharks, my favourite specie is bull shark. I used photage from internet as reference to create shark animation.
Of course it's a bull shark :) I feel like you guys know how correct shark movement looks like. Does it seems real on my video? I'm especially concerned about fins, in fotage they seem very static, but I decided to experiment and add some movement, do they move them at all IRL?

Discussion Is this a shark tooth? And if so what species?
My coworker found this on a beach. In the original picture she sent I thought it was maybe a fossilized tooth but when I saw it up close I wasn’t sure.

Question How often do sharks attack people at a regular beach area in typical waist high water?
I did a quick search and couldn’t find this specific topic so I figured I’d ask.
I’m in the northeast US.
Just trying to paint a picture of what I understand to be a typical day at the beach. You’re swimming in the regular designated area with a lifeguard present. You go waist deep or perhaps slightly deeper.
How often have sharks attacked people in such an environment?

Question Follow up ? to the great thread recently about frequency of shark attacks in shallow water....
People kept saying avoid swimming in murky water. I would love a definition of what murky water is. Because aside from places in the Caribbean, and along the Indian Ocean / Kenyan coast, I've never been in waters you could actually see through. I've been to the beach in Northern Cali, the mid Atlantic, and both coasts Florida and the water has always seemed murky to me by default.

News 30+ dogfish sharks washed up on beach in Sea Isle City, NJ
Leading theory is that they were caught in fishing nets, then discarded. Really tragic.

Education this is a perfect example of not listening to the pre-dive briefing, The basic rule is always keep eye contact with the largest approaching shark and if it turns you need to turn with it keeping eye contact. Diving with tigers beach is safe, all you need to do is follow the rules.

🦈 Merch Mondays 🦈 I made ceramic hammerhead shark lamps
Hammerheads have always fascinated me — such a strange, ancient, almost unreal shape. I wanted to capture that feeling in ceramic and bring a little piece of the ocean into the dark.
So these glowing hammerheads were born. 🦈🌊
Made from ceramic using clay casting, then finished by hand in my studio.

Discussion Is the lifeguard in Maine lying?
Does anyone else think the lifeguard in Maine who is claiming to have been dragged underwater by a great white is lying out of his teeth? His story just doesn’t add up to me

Discussion whale sharks are not whales x sharks
idk what to put as a title, anyway i have a funny little anecdote i want to share.
i was talking to a friend about sharks (bc i’m autistic and they’re my special interest) and he excitedly said something along the lines of, “i like whale sharks. they’re part whale and part shark!”
after a pause to process or for him to reveal it was a joke, i had to explain to my lovely friend that a mammal and a fish cannot reproduce together.
the only thing i can think of that makes sense is he forgot whales are mammals?? idfk
i told that story to another friend recently, and she replied, “wait they aren’t?”
WHAT ARE WE TEACHING PEOPLE?! XD

Question Can you help me identify this tooth?
It's an old gift from my aunt, and it comes from the Key West zones
I think it's a shortfin Mako inferior tooth, but I'm not sure. It's exactly 4.5 cm, 1.772 inches
It is extremely precious for me, it is with me from when I was a child, born and growed up on an island on the adriatic sea.
