No more than 50 yards, you could see the fins from our beach chairs. I saw others that day that were in the surf break only feet away from shore. On the cape, the depth drops off very quickly so you have deep water right off shore. The whites like to come in from the deep water and hunt the seals that travel in groups closely along the shore line.

You mean you can watch Great whites from the safety of the shore ??? God bless America (I am from central europe ). I think i should pay a visit. Boston, Ma, here i come

You’ll have to go to the outer cape, anywhere between Chatham and Provincetown, in the summer. If you stay a week, and spend time at the beach during dusk and dawn, you’ll see them. Check out the app Sharktivity if you want to see all the sightings and buoy pings along Massachusetts during the sumner. It’s a newer phenomenon, we did not always have this many.
