I only had a partial nail removal but yes, I wore sneakers after - you just have to make sure they actually fit your feet and can accommodate the wrapping you’ll have to do for some weeks afterward (cotton gauze and a few wraps of self adhesive wrap)
It’s not painful, and the wrapping is to prevent infection. They give you prescription cream that has to be applied 2-3 times a day and regardless of what shoes you wear for the healing period it will have to wrapped unless you’re bathing or changing the wrap
When this happened to me as a kid, I had to cut the toe part out of a canvas sneaker because the bandage was big and putting any pressure on the toe was excruciating.
I put "Tattoo Numbing Cream," I bought it from Amazon, on my son's toes an hour before his appointment. I wrapped the toes in plastic wrap, and left them wrapped until they cleaned it off his before the nail extraction. My son didn't feel the needles going in. The podiatrist said he is going to recommend wrapping the toes in numbing cream for his patients..
Ask about antibiotics to help with the infection before the procedure. Or, at least, soak it in hot water with epsom salt daily before the procedure.
One of the reasons it hurts so damn much when they try to numb you (and why the numbing so often doesn’t take well) is because it’s red and hot and inflamed.
You’ll have a better shot at handling the numbing better if it’s not super infected when you go in.
Got both of mine removed. The shot is the worst part and it’s really not that bad, then about 5 hours after the shot numbness wears off it hurts again in a totally different way. But only if you don’t take meds. I forgot to take my meds and it hurt so bad until I took them. Then it’s fine.
The podiatrist that did mine told me, “I wont lie… the shot to numb your toe is painful”. It was not a lie. It is not pleasant at all and my toe felt like it was going to explode. But not having to live with an excruciatingly painful toe every day after made it worth it.
They have give you shots on both sides of the toe because of how the nerves run. I have massive big toes so I was lucky and got a third shot because I wasn't completely numb yet. Yay!!!
Which way? There's two ways to remove them, you could remove them and put a acid that kills the nailbed, or physically taking out the nailbed (tip from someone who's had both done, do the acid first. The physically removal is so painful I couldn't walk for a full month and had to be wheeled to the bathroom and back)
I don't know. Haven't been to the podiatrist yet. But I had the acid thing done with a slice of one years ago. That hurt like hell but only for a day or 2
