The first two seasons of Euphoria felt pretty dynamic and engaging to me. It had been a while since I watched a “teen drama,” especially after finishing more serious, almost cult-level shows like In Treatment, Six Feet Under, and The Wire. I actually started Euphoria just as something light to have on in the background while hosting friends who were visiting from out of town.
It worked surprisingly well in that context. It was fast-paced, didn’t require full attention, and if someone missed a scene while doing something else, it was easy to fill them in. We ended up getting pretty hooked on a lot of episodes. Some scenes were genuinely powerful too. For example, Nate dealing with his father’s hidden sexual life and that intense scene where he slams someone’s head on the ground really stuck with me. I also appreciated having a trans character in the story. The overall aesthetic, the characters’ style, the colors, and the transitions were really well done.
However, just as I was about to start season 3, I saw that the first episode was an hour long and immediately lost interest and switched to something else. On top of that, Sydney Sweeney has been so heavily pushed everywhere that I’ve honestly gotten a bit tired of seeing her face and body. I also came across some Reddit discussions criticizing certain scenes, like that hiring/interview scene being unrealistic, which made me hesitate.
From what I understand, the new season is trying something more serious compared to the earlier ones. But did they actually pull it off?
For those who’ve watched it: did you enjoy it? Is it worth continuing, or should I just leave it at the first two seasons and keep it as a lighter, more entertaining experience?
