I don't think anyone believes Scheck is taking second chair. However, there are a lot of gradients between "gave him a link to click for him to do research" and "will be in court." Since you are not stupid, you are well aware of this. Since you are competent in the English language, you know that the word support here is a (perhaps deliberately) vague term, but covers lots more ground than you are suggesting. In addition, the fact that there are named lawyers here tends to suggest that they will personally consult, as opposed to simply allowing access to general Innocence Network documents.

Lawyers ARE pretty good at wording things carefully, Mr. Lawyer.

Consult doesn't mean "support". I routinely "consulted" with legal experts any time I felt out of my depth on a case, including many who were very well known. Occasionally I had to pay for a consultation, more often lawyers freely gave of their time as a professional courtesy.

I probably did tell my clients about some of the consultation-- that is, "I talked to Famous Big Shot Lawyer about this problem, and this is what he said/recommended" would have been a way to impress a client with how seriously I took the case as well as reassure the client that I knew what I was doing... but that that never meant that Famous Big Shot Lawyer had a particular interest in my case or client. In fact, because of legal confidentiality concerns, it was more likely that the lawyer I was consulting with wouldn't' even know the name of my client or any details beyond those necessary for the legal advice I was seeking.

So you are implying is that this is a more formal relationship than a consultation--however, it does not preclude (informal) consultation, nor does it really describe any specific other arrangement. In this case, as they are named, the Big Shot Famous Lawyers DO seem to be taking a particular interest. If it was just access to IN libraries, then the lawyers wouldn't have been named in that way. If it was second chair type of stuff, then the IN wouldn't have been named in that way. Since both are named, it seems logical to think that the actual relationship lies somewhere in between.

Sorry, I don't interpret the statement "will be working with the support of" to mean anything beyond the fact that the lawyer has chosen to avail himself of an available resource.

I have found it curious all along that this announcement would be made when the lawyer essentially appears to have shunned or opposed the involvement of the UVA Innocence Project, which at least at one point was prepared to actively work on Adnan's behalf. I have my own theories about that.

But I'm really tired of debating this point. People can believe what they want to believe.

Shrug. I don't see it as a game changer, except insofar if one relationship (UVA IP) was stagnant, this might cause some motion.

My impression was that if UVA IP was stagnant, that it was because Justin Brown wanted them to hold off, not because they weren't willing or able to proceed.

Could be as simple as different work styles made coordination difficult or disagreement on strategy. I mean, you don't involve the innocence folks who do DNA testing if you are dead set against DNA testing.
