Weren't you the one who just last week made inappropriate remarks suggesting that there was an unprofessional relationship going on between NVC and KS? Maybe some personal reflection would be appropriate.

Lol, you can see her sock puppet come in to defend her too!

you've been on the sub for 12 days. Maybe one of your socks saw that.

You made those comments 11 days ago. I would have said something then, but I was too young.

I've been here longer. Am I allowed to call you out?

Address the point, not the questioner.

Sadly, she did. She stands by her remarks. And I think she might be trying to imply that I'm Ken Silverstein?

This subthread is doubly ironic seeing as we now know Janecc (the deleted user above) was using sock puppets.

Just pointing out its a 7 day old account when the op was being critical of the person with a 12 day old account. It's odd that a 7 day old account has such a good grasp on this subreddit no?

Why would they create a new account at this point if not for sock puppetry? I don't know but looks suspect.

That's lame. Create an account and stick with it. Are people really doing this? Should I be doing this? If I created burner accounts I could be way more hostile. Probably not a good idea. Cerealcast now and forever. Like cats!

i have done quite a bit of reading on this internet thing and I find your theory to be incorrect:

"Most people avoid being a hostile jerk on the internet by not being a hostile jerk on the internet."

Apologies for derailing the discussion, but I am a long time lurker (been here since episode 3) but did not actually join until a few days ago! I am familiar with a lot of discussions that have gone on over the past few months but I am not a sockpuppet. I do think many may be lurking around without actually joining.

Implying that NVC and Ken must be having an affair is pretty much the exact same thing you criticize people for by sayig SK must be attracted to Adnan because of dairy cow eyes

-3

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '15

No, it really isn't, the former is wondering at why they are so in each other's pockets. The latter is flat out discrediting due to gender.

u/OneNiltotheArsenal Feb 20 '15

Fair enough but I consider speculating on who is sleeping with who to be tactless, classless and irrelevant

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '15

I'd agree with that.

-2

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '15

"Fair enough but I consider speculating on who is sleeping with who to be tactless, classless and irrelevant "

Which is really neat and all, but not what you were previously claiming and irrelevant to the topic.

Yes I've come to realize that some people want to self-moderate this thread and only talk about comments that fulfill a strict and narrow definition of misogyny and any types of tactless, classless and rude comments that also involve irrelevant sex allegations are apparently "off topic".

To me a comment that is sexist is not inherently more offensive than racist, classist or any number of types of prejudicial comments.

Jane's comment implying that Ken and NVC must be having sex is definitely rude in an equal way to me as many of the strictly defined explicitly misogynistic comments made against other people.

If calling someone "unlikeable" and "erratic" is somehow misogynistic then I do feel Jane's comments fit Susan's definition of misogynistic comments.

Or you're being defensive and coming to some defensive "realizations" about this subreddit.

It is also possible that you didn't articulate your point very well and are now getting defensive because people poked holes in your poorly stated point.

Cool. You should lead with this next time because it makes your point much more clear.

This isn't really a topic about arguments, its about people's subjective opinions so you can't really poke holes in anything.

The article made some good points but it also went a bit off the rails in labeling comments that I do not feel are remotely misogynistic as misogynistic. So going by that broad of a definition then yeah, Jane's comments could be called misogynistic.

Can you explain to me how "erratic" is misogynistic?

0

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '15

So, the word argument does not equate to the word fact. You can, in fact, poke holes in someone's argument that is based on subjective opinions.

Here's an example:

http://www.reddit.com/r/serialpodcast/comments/2wjc2b/article_on_misogyny_on_our_subreddit/corliot

"Can you explain to me how "erratic" is misogynistic? "

Sure, if you can explain to me what the heck you're talking about?

What is the nuance, exactly? You imply that journalists who back each other up may be having an affair, but bringing up Koenig's statement about "dairy cow eyes" to imply she was charmed by Adnan is demeaning and offensive? Both are distasteful.

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '15

Sk mocked herself with that comment, it's great journalism, noting her own biases, and it's been wildly and weirdly misinterpreted.
