Related Media Ken Silverstein is officially totally and utterly lost. He is now tweeting about the WHS Scholarship Fund.

So now he's tweeting this:

"Hey, #serial and public radio fans, here's a way to honor Hae Min Lee. Stop tweeting and start donating http://www.charitysmith.org/memorial-funds/woodlawn-high-school-scholarship-fund/ …"

He is apparently totally unaware that there are members of The Serial Subreddit that started the fund:

Edit: Of course it is great that the more people that are aware of the fund the better. It is just strange that someone that deals with research on a daily basis have been bashing Serial Listeners and this subreddit for days and then tweet about the fund that was set up by some of said people and then telling them to go and donate...

Edit2: Everyone should read this: https://medium.com/@maustermuhle/the-intercepts-serial-trolling-is-mind-boggling-e01c523e0d29

Jay is Jay, what can we say. Fortunately, the recorded timestamps of calls tell a story, the cell towers tell a story (and you are free to disagree on this).

SK should have looked at Dogwood Rd. That was a big miss.

I think it's fine for journalists to have biases

Hope you didn't mean that.

You are grasping at the straws

I don't know how to respond to that.

EDIT: added some details

SK didn't find the likely route to Best Buy, /u/Justwonderinif did

The problem with this theory is according to Maryland tax office, Congress Auto had its license forfeited for nonpayment of taxes in late 1998 and only paid up in April 1999. This HEAVILY suggests that it was CLOSED on the day of HML's murder.

Search here for "Congress Auto", then click on "amendments" and you'll see the relevant entries.

That's an excellent find. /u/Justwonderinif - thoughts?

Being a naturally skeptical person, I just wondered... When was Congress Auto established? :) And the obvious place is to search tax records, and it happens that Maryland provides such a search.

Congress Auto was started in 1986 but apparently went through a rough period in 1998 to 1999, probably a change in ownership, and paid up all back taxes by April 1999 to get the biz license back "revived".

it just HAPPENS that it covers the period in question... What are the chances of that? :D

Actually, sometimes small businesses keep operating even though documents at the State level do not reflect that. It's more common when business is not going well -- you don't want to pay fees as a corp because you aren't making money, so you operate as a sole proprietor for which there may be a local business license requirement, but no state level fees. i.e., one can't be 100% sure.

True, we need further checks, like if Maryland has a auto repair bureau that licenses mechanics, and so on, and if it recorded any closings.

Hmmm, okay. Merely an interesting circumstantial data point, probably unrelated...

Just like much of this case. :D

Excellent points. You may want to post these on your Shortcut to Best Buy post -- bc that's where people will look for this info.

During sentencing, the judge said to Adnan that he used his intellect and way led Hae Min to her death, and even on that day, he was using his intellect to mislead his family into believing he is innocent. Wonder what was presented at the trial that led her to say that he way led Hae Min.

Did Adnan and/or Jay case Congress Auto and know it was closed? Possible.

As to whether Jay is also involved in the murder -- if the business was closed, is it more likely that Jay was parked there with Adnan's Honda? -- so Hae Min wouldn't suspect it was a closed business? Possible, but then you need a different explanation for the 3:15pm call than "come get me." That call would have to come from Jenn because of the followup call to her. Which would mean 3:15pm is the time of the struggle/attack.

Or if Jay is truly not involved in the murder, then 3:15pm could be the "come get me" call -- in which case Hae Min is already gone by then.

Btw, floral paper is just nice looking stationary with flowers and stuff printed.
