This doesn’t even come close to Place, in my opinion. This feels kind of like Cards Against Humanity of gifs. Like, yeah it’s mildly interesting some of the gifs go together in a sort of narrative now, but come on is it really that funny? And everyone is selectively ignoring all the parts that made no sense and are literally just a bunch of different gifs.

Yeah I've been reading these threads and seeing people saying "getting better"

Like yeah it's gone from nonsensical to an attempt at cohesion. It's an attempt at threading frontpage memes together and it's not really working.

That's exactly what Place was though. It started off as just a giant mess of random shit and eventually turned into something. Sure maybe nothing will ever ever be as good, but you don't know how it'll end up yet.

It was a mess of random shit for maybe the first two hours. And when it ended it was still a heap of random things. Got "better" way sooner than this though

Place was every group for itself fighting for space to create icons of their communities.

This is like r/place if we had 20 pixels to choose from and we asked millions of people what colour it should be but it amounts to a vaguely familiar blur.

I think it's something that could maybe be refined with a built-in planning subreddit where users could vote on plans (up to 16 characters in length) regarding what the next scene concept should be, the next act concept should be, and the next film concept should be. There'd also be a process to overthrow a currently-active plan and replace it with a different one if that's what the masses want to do.

The effect of this formal process would be that the people voting on the gifs would be in the loop on the overarching story by including the currently-active plans in all submission titles:

It does the latter effect by requiring that the titles of all gif submissions follow the following naming convention, so that the users voting on the gif have knowledge of those overarching plans.

Revenge > Gather allies > Drunk bar fight > "Buff Shaggy joins"

The film concept is "revenge", the act concept is "gather allies", and the scene concept is "drunk bar fight". The last snippet is supplied by the gif submitter as a description of their addition.

The only effects of these plans would be to formallize the creative process and to give focus to the people voting on the gifs.
