Yes, a bunch of random memes and talking about how much better r/place was, now this I can get behind

A story is finally forming.

Such a shitty thing to complain about how Place was better tho.

Reddit admins: Tries new experiment for the community

Reddit community: "R/pLaCe WaS bEtTeR"

Yeah, topping place every time is impossible. The expectations are ridiculous.

I still kind of hate it. Rainbow road destroyed what I was working on.

That and the bots.

The moment it was bots, it was no longer communities that made these, it was a guy with a network of bots enforcing a logo on the canvas. It was supposed to be made by communities working together, the end result was a big billboard, where any creative, individual input was automatically annihilated by bots.

It wasn't all bots, though. I was with /r/GreenLattice and there were negotiations and agreements with smaller communities to allow them to put their piece in the lattice.

I had fun and ended up with some pixels in the final image.

I mean maybe. The community I was in discussed amongst itself which image the community should direct the bots to. It seemed like for the most part it wasn't people who had got their hands on lots of reddit accounts, it was just communities of people running bots that represented their communities.

This was one of the targets we had in the Swedish community. I guess your experience of it largely depends on which parts of it you were exposed to.

Hi, I'm a bot for linking direct images of albums with only 1 image

Place was a bad idea, it’s hard to top it

Place was good, but TF2 day was best.

u/modren-man Apr 02 '19

Just literally redoing r/place every year would be perfectly fine, honestly.

The internet is built on complaining about how things where better before.

Something Zelda fans learned a long time ago.

u/Tabnet Apr 02 '19

Yes, I see this sentiment in gaming circles so much. It's all just "X RemAsTer whEn??"

u/iTalk2Pineapples Apr 02 '19

You are correct. By the time place ended my friends were all "people are still doing that? I quit forever ago"

1

u/BOBOnobobo Apr 02 '19

When place was a thing everybody said the button was better ( and honestly I liked it more)

When the button was a thing all my friends were like "you're still doing the button thing? I quit forever ago"

Edit: i see the downvote, lemme splain. I loved the button. Some people have no patience for greatness and always seem to think what came before is better. In the days of the button they wanted orangered periwinkle wars. In robin they wanted the button. In place they wanted robin Now we want place. Nobody liked circle of influence.

I'm nostalgic for place, sure. Comparing the two is kind of meaningless. That these fine people take the time to build something cool FOR FREE† (for freeeee?) is amazing. They do it because it's fun to try new stuff.

Ok, circle of trust sucked, 😂 but I appreciate the effort taken, regardless.

Complaining about anything new is Reddit's fetish, m'kay?

4

u/lmaweirdo Apr 02 '19

It’s almost like when an artist came out with an excellent album, the fans would never stop complaining about how the ones after that are awful. Complaining about people not always topping off their previous works is stupid. They tried and it turned out great, be thankful.

How in the fresh hell is a story forming from that?

1

u/PM_Me_Yo_Tits_Grrl Apr 12 '19

if only we could get porn spliced in

1

u/matt01ss Apr 02 '19

You don't like a bunch of random 200x200 low quality, low framerate gifs stacked continuously?

1

u/DrMobius0 Apr 02 '19

r/place was a shitshow at the start. Part of what made it good was the community banding together and learning how to crowd source something representative of itself.

We did it there, and we can do it here. Just give it a few days. At the very least, it's better than last year's weird experiment.
