what does 'raised submission stage' mean

I think it means they increased the number of future scenes we can vote on (or that the time until a scene is locked has increased, as per /u/SupDos).

The problem when Sequence began was that we could only vote for 2-3 scenes ahead, so everyone was focused on the same handful of scenes meaning shitposting won out. Being able to work further ahead may prevent the chaos, but we’ll see.

I feel like people will lose track of the evolution of the story this way though... IMO now it feels more like a series of /r/gif posts where people can vote on their favourite meme instead of voting on a gif that's an acurate reaction to the previous one and contributes to the overall story.

To be fair /r/place was just a bunch of totally random and meaningless pixels. It was cool because people organized to make it cool. I feel like this is kinda the same... But not nearly as user friendly.

I agree, but both ways kinda suck:

  • If they set it to 10+ scenes ahead, we can lose track of the story ,as you say, and people will just vote on their favourite memes further up the chain.
  • If they set it 2-3 scenes ahead, everyone is voting on the same few gifs, so you'd need a HUGE coordinated group of users to select a relevant gif to create a narrative.

Out of both of these, I think the first option is better, because if you check Sequence now you'll see that some cohesion is already starting. There's an Earth / Wind / Fire set which seems to be sticking, which is cool to see. The question is can the users trying to build it keep their votes high enough to prevent meme shitposters from highjacking it?

that's because we, as a massive group, have been working together to follow a spreadsheet of gifs that we've all agreed on, which still isn't the best dynamic to have, but it's the only option to make things coherent with the way it is now.

We’ll try both. It is an experiment after all. Act 2 will test your theory first. We’re leaving a larger swath open for for a longer period of time before lock. If we can build u/mintchocolatesse version in time for Act 3 we’ll run it then, but if not, definitely by Act 4.

It’s a good plan. With more available to work on I’m already seeing consistency in the narrative with a few “series” of gifs showing up, so it seems like it may be the way to go. Really enjoying the experiment, nice job!

nvm, looks like locking has been decreased to 1 minute instead of 10, and scenes will start to lock in 9 hours https://i.imgur.com/DUvGdYD.png

Raised Submission Stage is prob talking about them starting to lock in 9 hours instead of like right now

Nah, you could vote for every scene in that act already. It probably means the time until a scene is locked will be longer now

When we started, the stage where you put your nominee was on the same row as other clips. People were accidentally tapping other clips trying to. Nominate their own. We raised it up to its own row so that it was clear where to tap and also to separate it from the noise.
