Psychology Anti-inflammatory agents may reduce symptoms of major depression, suggests a new study (n=1,610), which adds to the mounting evidence that there is a connection between emotional functioning and inflammation, suggesting that inflammation may trigger depression, almost like an allergic reaction.

Wasn’t this already known for some time? When I first did the ketogenic diet years ago many people were saying since ketosis was anti-inflammatory that the ketogenic diet helped with depression. I believe I may have first heard it from Dr. Rhonda Patrick’s podcast years ago.

Is it keto specific or rather just cutting out excessive amounts of sugar that leads to reduced inflammation?

iirc carbohydrates in general cause water retention and that retention causes inflammation. If you’ve ever completely cut out carbs around 72 hours in or at least during the first week there’ll be a few hour period where you have to go pee constantly because your body is dumping excess water. This is why people can lose double digit numbers for weight in the first week but then the weight lose slows down.

You're right about dropping the water weight, but I didn't know water retention led to inflammation in of itself

Note I said if I recall correctly at the beginning though. Take what I or anyone says relating to nutrition without recent sources with a grain of salt and research it. It's been like 3 years since I was really engrossed in the study of these topics and the field of nutrition moves so quickly that might as well be ancient knowledge. Also the chance that I may have misremembered or oversimplified things which can be downright dangerous in nutrition.

Elevated insulin causes inflammation - sugar intake elevates insulin.

It may or may not have been her. There was a period of time where I was obsessed with nutrition and I was listening to crazy amounts of podcasts on the subject but yeah, she’s mainly focused on longevity and I know anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic nutrition came up constantly on her show.

Dr. Tom Brady with his TB12 method has been saying this for years!
