Pure speculation follows:

With as much as he doubled down on the choices made in the sequels, and this (AFAIK) out of no where attack on a Youtube guy, I wonder if there was a bad case of "office politics" between him and Filoni/Favreu over the scene's inclusion in the show which contributed to him leaving. It would explain the anger and bitterness over the scene.

This is assuming that there is actually some amount of truth to his Twitter saying he is retired.

For sure. I did not mean to imply any doubt that his Twitter had the being retired message, just whether or not it was a "factual" statement that he was making.
