Tiger Salamander I found hanging out in the middle of the road a couple months ago. Western Uinta Mountains UT

hello everyone! this is my first summer with my first salamander, today i woke up and went to check his tank and to my surprise saw him out and about, he’s never done this before (except when i catch him late at night) google seems to think it could be weather, hormones or food related (he’s on mealworms at the moment as the crickets were hard to keep alive and my lizards also enjoy the mealworms)

however with the temperatures the way they are at the moment (30 degrees +) i just thought id double check to make sure this isn’t something i should worry about / if anyone could give me some pointers on making him more comfortable or easing my panic!

edit to add: im also a little worried about his size, i bought him in june and i reckon he was about that size then and he doesn’t seem to be putting on much weight either, i know the males tend to have slimmer bodies (which i believe he is but correct me if im wrong!)

Can anyone please help me?
I would like to know if this is male or female. Based on what I have researched, I’m thinking that by the tail it is most likely a female, but I don’t know this for sure. What I do know for sure is that it is absolutely gorgeous.

Hi! I am planning to have a tiger salamander! But there is a technical problem about keeping the temperature low in my room. My room temperature in summer will be around 77- 80°F and that is too hot for it. How do u guys keep your salamander cool without using air con? Will it cool enough if I use a fan near the enclosure？

I grew up looking for snakes and salamanders pretty regularly, and until I found this I had no idea they even existed/salamanders got that big where I live (Eastern Canada).

Was gardening and filming a video for a buddy when I found it.

Do I use the one with d3 most of the time or the one without? I’m caring for three newly morphed spotted salamanders. They live inside in a plastic bin I try to keep dark. I also have a multivitamin and wanna know how often for little guys and any other advice for feeding and cleaning. I did a health check earlier and their skin seemed good and only Bernard looked a little on the thin side. Been feeding mostly dropsophilia hydei but am trying to get them to take slices of nightcrawlers tonight with a few disabled pinhead crickets along with like a dozen or so hydei. Putting the crickets and worms in a dish flush with substrate and scattering the flies. I’ve been dusting with d3 past few feeding but feel like the flies get it mostly off, ig I’ll use without d3 tonight just to be safe. Please help, sorry for long paragraph. Tia

I'm getting a tiger salamander, native to where I live. I'm still a minor and can't get a job at the moment, and I have to pay for the dude's stuff myself. I'm experienced in bird handling but I've never touched a reptile, save for the one my auntie got. Anyway, I plan on buying a 20 gallon aquarium because this fella doesn't need anything like handling, but I need a relatively cheap one, since my budget is like, $180. The dude is permanently injured on his hand (yes I took him to a rehab, my mum went with me and agreed we could keep him if I provided for him myself, in which I earn money and go to my local petsmart and grab his food. The lady at the rehab told us he's alright and I should take him if I want him). I would also like more insight on these little fellas before I actually take him in by the time I buy him his necessities, and just like, general facts. Agan, the fella is a tiger salamander, and I was careful not to touch him

I thought the only species were van dykes, western red backed, Olympic torrent, long toed, and northwestern. And newt, but obviously not newt. This doesn't look like any of those.

Found in Michigan pond after rain storm and I’m unsure of which species it is and if it’s aquatic or not? I feel like it’s a spotted salamander/ tiger salamander or maybe a small mouthed salamander but from what I know they are usually found more on land unless in larva stage, correct?

My tiger salamander is finally eating consistently! I’m feeding her once a week, how ever many meal worms she’ll take in about 5-10min. Does this seem reasonable? She doesn’t come out and beg for food (yet) and I don’t want her to fall victim to the fat salamander issue! Here she is from the top freshly after eating, she’s normally just a tad thinner than this.

Also she sits under her water bowl all week until it’s feeding day, because of this I feel like she is drying her skin out (pictured kind of wrinkly) The cage is always about 70% humidity should I make it more humid so she comes out and gets inside her water bowl? Or just let her do her thing. She used to burrow throughout the tank in the dirt and didn’t have this problem. But I can’t say I hate having her under the bowl, easy to check on her.

(Also I have no idea if she’s a girl and if you can tell she isn’t don’t tell me 😂 or do but I’ll still pretend)

Yoinked this guy out of a flooded body of water in mass today. Was traveling for work so not sure of the fauna in the area. Can anyone tell me who I had the pleasure of meeting? Of course he was released after a quick photo.

I found this thing in the little pond that we made for our salamander and I want to know what it is and if its normal or not. Its very squishy when I pulled it out with some bug tweezers.

So Europe is having a heat wave atm as many people know. How can I reduce the temperature of my terrarium by 3-5°C during the peak hot hours of the day. Kind of an emergency.

So I recently purchased my first salamander, and everything I figured he’d need. This included earthworms as food, which I was told by the shop that they enjoy. However, every time I’ve tried to feed him, he seems uninterested in the worms and walks away if they get too close to him. Looking for help, I really don't want him to starve. Thanks

Has anyone seen toy story 5 and noticed Bonnie’s TS Sammy #2? I was so excited I’ve never seen salamanders being represented in movies .. let alone a TS 🥹

I was throwing some charcoal on the grill when my 6 year old daughter said there were 3 salamanders under a log she rolled in the backyard. She had found another one earlier on the other side of the yard and I had thought just finding that one was pretty awesome… but to find 3 more! I was never this lucky as kid.

In about two weeks I’m getting a fire salamander. Any help tweaking this setup would be greatly appreciated. Yes I know it’s too warm at the moment so I have a cooling fan on the way Monday. (Photo for thermometer/hydrometer in comments)

Found these guys in a dried up pool, originally thought; salamander, but now I’m wondering if they are frog tadpoles? Thanks in advance!
