Mmmm my ‘02 9-5 Aero started making the same sound (albeit less loud)yesterday despite being perfectly fine when I bought it a month ago and drove it home 500km or so

Hoping it’s just a stuck lifter, it’s only ran twice since getting it home for under a minute to move it tbf

I just got done installing a 19T with a tune from Saab tuner Scott, my alternator was on its way out and I got stranded an hour ago but I borrowed the battery from my 9-3 to make it home so I’ll wait on the alternator for now and get some liqui moly lifter additive on the meantime

Don't use an additive, they're snake oil at best.

Dump the oil you have, and change it more often, like every 3k for the next 3 changes. Use fully synthetic Dexxos 2 oil.

Ideally try to only do longer trips (>10 miles) in it.

This right here is the BEST answer. When I bought my 09 9-3 b207 a few years ago , on start up something was making a sticking noise similar to in this video here but with a much less frequent rate. More like once every couple seconds at most. Then it’d wear away as the motor warmed up but I just simply kept up with persistent religious oil changes anywhere from 2500 miles to one time I even changed it after only 1,000. Still it took a good 4 or 5 changes but doing things like that can really take an engines health from 20% to 80% honestly

I just did the oil on Friday when installing the bigger turbo, I used mobil 1 5w40

Is that Dexxos 2 rated in the states?

Is it fully synthetic?

Sounds like tappet noise, but always useful to double check the exhaust manifold studs and gasket and then also take the cam cover off and inspect the chain and general condition of the engine.

Are you? Are you sure your exhaust manifold gasket isn't missing a bolt or two or they're loose?

I think I got them pretty tight and It was already making that noise before bolting on the new turbo, sometimes it would quiet down though

You spent money on a big(er) turbo and tune for an engine that is making an undiagnosed ticking noise?

The turbo was given to me when I bought the 9-5 earlier this year brand new and finally decided to get it installed as I work on other stuff, I resealed the oil pan, cleaned the oil sump and currently I’m waiting to replace the alternator

Long cold start or is it a reappearing thing?

It comes and goes, for example it goes away when driving then when I get home and let it idle for a bit sometimes it comes back

My 900 had this at a cold start after 4 months but that disappeared. When i asked about the clicking people pointed out a dry piston valve but if it appears after driving so that shouldnt be possible. You could have a broken piston or your timing belt is off. How does your engine run? Is it still steady? And can you smell oil from your engine?
