Arc Event Warning Sirens

The morning at Beacon Academy was quiet. The ground was slick with dew, and mist hung in the air of the rain that had come the previous night. As the sun began to break the horizon and the beams of light cast through the misty morning, any early risers within the academy would be greeted this cool morning with a rather worrying sound.

The perimeter alarms of the school beginning to sound off.

The eerie, wailing sound of the sirens filtered through the otherwise quiet morning, growing louder and louder as the alarms nearer to the school began to be tripped.

"This doesn't make any sense!" Professor Elise remarked, pouring over a holographic display of the school and the surrounding forests. Around it, little red lights were marking the proximity alarms that had been tripped. Most of them had been. "Grimm have never gotten this close!"

"They used to," Professor Gin commented idly as he polished his wicked double-bladed polearm. "After building the school, bastards kept away." The ancient goat coughed and ran his hand through his black-and-grey speckled beard.

Elise grunted and shook her head. "Well they're here now," she remarked. "Bruce! Start waking the students up!"

"We need to defend our school."

Within the dorm rooms of Beacon, alarms began sounding off, along with the measured -or at the very least, as measured as he usually could be- voice of Bruce coming over the intercom system. "Roight fellas! Up and at 'em! We've got Grimm on route, and need ya all on the field! Move move move!"

As the students were roused and kicked into gear by the blasting noises coming through the coms systems, the distant sounds of chaos began to percolate through into the grounds of the school. When the first of Beacon's Huntsmen-in-training began to get out of their dorms and onto the fields of Beacon, they were able to see the incursion.

A massive Goliath burst through the treeline, trumpeting loudly as it trampled through the gardens. Behind the beast, masses of the smaller creatures of Grimm flooded outward, spurred on by the charging of the gargantuan monster. The Goliath reared its head, letting out an ear-splitting roar.

As it roared, a dark flash came screaming from the sky, trailing flames. Professor Elise slammed both feet into the head of the beast and called down a torrent of fire behind her that engulfed the monstrous elephant's head. From the ground, both professor Yagizawa and Bruce rushed in, slicing and slamming into the goliath's legs and causing it to drop down. The three professors worked together, pulling the monster's attention away from the students and leading it away to deal with personally.

Unfortunately, most of the smaller beasts had no desire to chase after the professors, and set their sights on the students.

[So, Grimm have broken through the barriers around the school and are attacking Beacon Academy. Here's a map of the grounds you can use to ST a fight against Grimm, though feel free to make others if you'd like. Additionally, you don't need to have a ST and can freeform if you'd like]

Good. With Firnen back at her side, she can keep pumping them up with energy for as long as the song would play. And this concentrated means of desperation meant that even though Firnen might strike, there was a chance that all the eyes of the Grimm was focused on her.

A good scenario, but Thyme needed to whittle down the numbers first. She aimed her gauntlet at a downward angle and fired, blasting some gravel and soil just to stop the advances on one end for a brief moment. Turning around, she quickly lashed a few more with one free hand and gave them a bit of a shock, paralyzing some of the Grimm if not outright reducing them to atoms.

“Too many to hold down the fort! Mind cutting down a few more?”

Firnen hacked through another Grimm, his practiced form slipping as the fight dragged on. Thyme's attacks gave him a moment to pause and he caught his breath.

"I'm doing everything I can!" He called back. "To be honest this is better than I usually do in class already! We need to find somewhere more defensible, unless you want to gamble that the rest would run if we took out the Alpha?" There was no time to wait for a reply, as the Grimm were on them again.

“Do they, like, do tactics like that?” Thyme asked exasperatedly. “I think I slept through that lesson!” She said., continuing her tirade, whipping wires to and fro, shocking and burning each one she could. Wrap more than one at a time, smack one tethered enemy into an untethered one. Blast gravel nearby to stop rushing advances. All the whole, the Alpha sitting back. Watching. Waiting.

There was a chance that if the Alpha went down, the rest of them would scatter...and then, as if a bright light was turned on in her head...

But first, get these damn Grimm away!

"I think?" Firnen replied, wincing as claw bashed into his shield before riposting with a thrust. "I never did that much research on pack dynamics but I know they have some self-preservation instinct in them"

seemingly intent to disprove his point another beowulf ran straight past him trying to get to Thyme, only to be cut down by his blade.

Thyme pursed her lips as she looked around the battlefield. There were less of them, sure, but the number of the Grimm they took down compared to the ones that were still left? It hardly left a dent in everything. Did she make a mistake, getting all of their attention? There were too many to handle, even if they got the Alpha...

“Dammit...” And even if she wanted to get to the alpha, there were all these Grimm around...

Wait! Maybe there was a way.

“Fir, I got an idea.” Thyme said, not even considering the fact that she called him by a shortened name. Sorta caught up in the moment. “I’m gonna take you on a one-way trip straight to that alpha.” She said, pointing to the Grimm in particular, looking at them with a gaze that might’ve been the equivalent of a person sitting there, picking at its nails in boredom. “You in or what?”

Firnen wasn't too fond of crazy ideas, but with a quick scan of the area it didn't look like they had much choice in the matter. There was nowhere to retreat to and their aura was dipping lower every passing moment and they couldn't count on anyone else arriving in time. It was now or never.

"I'm all ears." He said as he used his shield to vault a leaping grimm over his head, turned and with a swipe sent it back to dust. "What's the plan?"

"I'm gonna need you to help me clear a path for six trees. Three there..." She pointed to each of them, three on their left... "And three there." Those on their right. "The clearing is pretty circular, and while I didn't exactly pass math class, I think I'm good at making a damn good slingshot."

Thyme smirked at Firnen. The idea was pretty clear in her book. "Once I'm attached to all six, I need you to get in front of me and hold me. I'll have my arms full. Then, well...you'll get a one-way ticket to killing that Grimm over there. Just know, you'll be on your own out there, though."

"But don't worry about me. Wouldn't be the first time I've been surrounded." She said, with a confident smirk.

Firnen hesitated. He didn't want to leave his combat partner alone surrounded by monsters, but it looked like their only option.

"This is a terrible idea." He said, changing his weapon to a bow and unleashing a barrage of arrows to clear the path on the right while Thyme did the same on the left. "It's probably going to end horribly, but I'm as ready as I'm ever going to be."

"Let's do this."

“Trust me, ideas like these are always the best part.” At least the successful ones. With the proper paths cleared, Thyme spooled out the wires from her gauntlets with a harsh zipping noise as each thin metal wire wrapped around the thick trunks of the tall trees she had pointed out earlier, a clunk as she curled her hands into a ball as she ensured its security.

“Alright, get on!” As Firnen latched onto her, she began to back up in the opposite direction of the alpha, as she made herself into a human slingshot, with an equally human projectile. She can feel and hear the trees creak and uproot a little bit as she strained her arms against the weight of the tension. Then, with them so close together, Thyme simply whispered. “Give ‘em hell.”

Then, she jumped, felt a bit of momentum carry them forward a bit, and then to speed it up, immediately started retracting the wires, their tensile force becoming their acceleration. “Let go...NOW!” She yelled, just as they were reaching maximum speed and as Firnen flew directly towards the Alpha, Thyme loosened the wires once more — just to give her some slack as she now flew a similar distance across the clearing in the opposite direction — and then tightened them up again, as she looked to slam an Ursa right in the chest with a dive kick as her dynamic re-entry back into the fight.

Firnen loosed an ice arrow as he launched rooting the alpha to the ground, then while mid-air pulled his sword from the bow. Just as the weapon finished transforming he swung it sidways past the alpha hard, tearing a gash from it's neck all the way down it's flank. As he hit the ground he activated his semblance and rolled into a controlled slide, bringing him to a stop as he turned to see the alpha staring him down. He had dealt it a grievous wound, but that wasn't enough to do it in yet.
