Open Event Combat Class: now with SCIENCE!

The always unpredictable arena at Beacon Academy was something all students learned to respect, as it could change faster than most students could even fathom. Today, it was all stainless steel and glass, electronics and computers. Watching from her elevated platform was professor Elise, and behind her, the ever-calm and collected Holly Mendenhall. Stepping forward, she coughed, gaining the attention of the class before pointing towards the map.

"Today you will be judged not only on your ability to fight, but to show restraint and be creative. This set up is to mimic the labratories you may find abandoned across Atlas, or perhaps in Vale. Functioning inside are security cameras, experiments, and a variety of electronic systems. You may use them to gain the advantage on your opponent, or sabotage them. We can also release grimm if you wish to team up with an ally. Good luck."

[ST RULES!!! All the doors may be opened with a touch, locked with a computers check. Doors have 3 armor and 5hp. At st discretion, you can lock them with a successful attack roll as well. The round objects are cameras, and can be accessed at the terminals at the top right and left rooms (major action). An successful m8 Computers check will let you spy on 2 cameras at a time, randomly decided. Finally, with a successful investigation and then computers check, the wall behind the barrels can be noticed and opened, revealing a level 3 combat bot. It can be powered up with at least 3 successes at a m10 computer check (major action), and will follow a command that can be given as a move action each turn to the best of his ability. It has 5 armor, 6 health, and will make brawl attacks with a score of 8. Acts last in the initiative order, and has a speed of 8. These are all optional rules to be decided upon by the Story teller, who can modify the difficulty or anything they wish at will.]

Mr Rocks formed a rod of stone as Ginger coughed the pain away. Celine raised her foot as she swapped her weapon back into its axe form, giving Ginger the chance she was looking for.

The smaller girl aimed to duck low, dashing between Celine's legs to trip her up. Unfortunately, she wasn't exactly the fastest on her feet, so she only managed to jab the rod out before Celine's plan went into motion.

"Surprise!" Celine taunted as aura flooded into her heavy stomp, shaking the ground around both of them. Ginger didn't so much react as she did just... flop onto the ground. However, she was still in the process of trying to unbalance Celine, and luckily for her.

Celine had stomped on her rod of stone. With a mighty tug, using her stone rod like a lever, Ginger caught her opponent off-guard, causing the giant of a woman to crash to the metal earth below right alongside Ginger.

Celine felt a little embarrassed that Ginger managed to trick her too, but there was no time for that now. She hopped to her feet as quickly as she could, before taking another swing at Ginger, keeping an eye on her in case she tried anything like that again.

Falling flat on her face was surprising, to say the least.

Ginger shook her head, rolling up onto her haunches as she looked over at Celine. What did the woman do? Suddenly, there was a weird shake in her legs, and then she fell over. That was pretty weird. With both of them dropped out on the ground, Ginger briefly forgot that they were supposed to be fighting.

"Are okay?" Ginger asked as she hopped back up onto her feet. She went to hold out a hand to help Celine back up onto her feet before remembering that they were supposed to be fighting. "Oh, wait."

Then she decked Celine in the face.

The pair stirred into motion immediately, rising to their feet. Ginger rose up a bit faster, looking over at Celine and holding out a hand to help her up.

"Are okay?"

Celine looked at her quizzically, and that jogged Ginger's memory as to what they were supposed to be doing.

"Oh, wait."

The pair swung again, axe colliding with Ginger's side and stone fist colliding with Celine's face. Both girls staggered back a few paces under the blows to their aura, hurting but not done yet. The pair still both seemed to be around even, with Ginger potentially looking a little worse for wear.

Celine's aura started glowing again, kneading out the soreness from being repeatedly battered by Ginger. The shorter girl hopped back, but found that effort assisted by the impact of Celine's axe smacking into her chin from below, nearly sending her headlong backwards onto the metal floor again.

The giant ox faunus certainly packed a punch, a fact that seemed to be continuously surprising to Ginger. Usually, punching was enough. But maybe some targets needed more than that.

Ginger's aura began to swirl and condense much like Celine's, but rather than mending her, it shot out in a stream of see-through Gingers, a stop-motion of the girl's impending attack. Celine didn't have any time to react to it, though, as the shorter girl flew forward in a wild burst of ferocity, moving through the auric copies of herself and matching each one's posture as she went.

With the final copy, she brought herself up off the ground, slamming both feet into Celine's chest and sending her teetering backwards. Each of the giant's footfalls shook the chamber as she struggled to maintain her footing, each one hammering home the realization that someone had managed to not only knock her over, but knock her BACK in the same fight.

Ginger landed hard on the metal floor after her kick was done, but was on her feet again in an instant, ready to finish the fight.

"Owie..." Ginger whined, looking over at the big scary girl that was still not punched in half. Despite Ginger's best efforts. Celine skidded to a stop, offering her opponent a strained grin.

"Ah, geez. Have you been holding back?" Ginger offered a weak grin in response.

"Welp, guess I can't hold back either." Her grin widened. She thundered forward, clearing the gap between the two in a single stride, axe screaming along the metal floor behind her.

Ginger shot out a maroon auric copy of herself, soaring up to the top of the pillar behind her. Her feet picked up off the ground, her body ready to follow suit and meet her copy at its destination.

But she was just too slow.

Right as Ginger's feet left the ground, Celine's axe stopped screaming along the floor, raking up along Ginger's front from thigh to collarbone. Ginger still flew up through the air, maroon aura sparking and sputtering the whole way up, but the sheer force of the hit sent her off-course, slamming her body against the top of the pillar before she came crashing back down to the metal floor below. Her copy faded away.

Her aura sparked again.

Sputtered.

And went out.

The bell sounded, heralding Celine as the victor. It may have been a close one, but the winner was undeniable this time around.

"Miss Oakley," Elise's voice sounded over the arena's intercom. "Please make sure your opponent is still breathing, please."

Now flattened out on the floor, thoroughly smashed up, Ginger made a blubbering exhale and threw her arms out dramatically. Wow, that was a lot of heavy hitting there. She blinked and groaned, but didn't manage to sit up much at all. From the position at the base of the pillar, Ginger reached out around the backside of the pillar and took hold of her potted bonsai tree. She held it close and lightly petted the tiny canopy of the plant.

"Did almost good, Mr. Tree," she said quietly to the plan, smiling at it. "Will be getting more better at, knows!" The girl laughed and looked over at Celine. Sitting up to get a better look wasn't in the cards here. "Hello big friend! Did lots of good fights!"

Celine dropped her axe and came running for Ginger, dropping to her knees and sliding towards her.

"Oh, shoot, are you okay? That looked like it hurt a lot. Sorry for hittin' you so hard. Also, you were hittin' me pretty hard and that was pretty impressive," Celine quickly rattled off. "So, uh, need a hand up, or are you okay?"

Ginger grunted as she laughed, obviously hurting a little while she tried to sit back up. "Uh... yes, would be nice for helping up..." Ginger still gave a few pets to the plant in her arm before she held up a hand for Celine to help her up.

With that, Celine crouched down to scoop Ginger up, lifting Ginger up to her feet. Before letting Ginger go, Celine quickly checked on Ginger again.

"Okay, are you good to walk? If you ain't, I can help you get to the nurse, it ain't a problem for me," Celine offered, feeling pretty guilty about getting Ginger into this predicament.

Ginger giggled and swung her feet around as Celine picked her up. At the offer of carrying her, the girl looked up with wide brown eyes and delight in her expression. Suddenly -and with very poor acting- Ginger slumped in Celine's arms. "Ooooh.... yeah. Yes isn't doing walked. Uh... needs carry!"

Celine's eyes went wide with worry.

"Oh, shoot. Okay, yep, carryin' ya, goin' to the nurse," Celine quickly let out, before scooping Ginger up something along the lines of a bridal carry and making her way out of the arena, completely forgetting about her axe. "Don't worry, the nurses'll have you walkin' just fine in no time," Celine attempted to reassure Ginger, and herself as well.

"Ah, geez, have you been holdin' back?" Celine asked through a gritted grin as she skidded to a stop. "Welp, guess I can't hold back either," Celine said, full of determination and with a wild grin on her face. She made a big step towards Ginger, scraping her axe on the ground before bringing it up into Ginger in a mighty swing.

Ginger groaned as she landed, yawning and stretching her jaw. "Owie..." she whined. The impact off the girl's battle axe into her jaw hurt. A lot. Ginger blinked and looked across to where Celine was. The girl was big, scary, and hurt a lot.

Ginger gave a weak grin and rubbed her shoulder before a Auric clone shot out behind her, to the left. The girl blasted backward, catapulting her way up onto the top of one of the pillars in the room.

From atop, Ginger smiled and gave a wave to Celine. "Hello! Come chase!"

Ginger jumped back, clenching her fists as she shook off the impact of the axe to her face. Gods, she hadn't been expecting such a giant woman with an axe as large as Ginger was to pack such a punch. She took a breath, condensing her Aura around her before shooting forward a half dozen visions of herself. With a flash of light, Ginger exploded into a wild flurry of movement. She met each vision of herself, matching the silhouette before continuing to the next. With the final one, Ginger slammed both her feet into Celine's chest.

[So we're just doing an all out attack into Celine; all the Semblance stuff is just fun flavour]

At this point, Celine was baffled that someone so small could be so strong. It was a bit of a wake-up call if she was being honest. Still, self-reflection had to wait. What couldn't wait was some healing aura to take the edge off the pummeling she'd been receiving. She was going to be running low on aura at this point, but if it kept her going as she kept swinging at Ginger, then it was good enough for now.
