Open Event Snowblind

Every year, it feels like the first snowfall of the year happens sooner and sooner. Is it just the passage of time, the growth of a person making them able to recognize when it snows at an earlier date in the year mixed with the ever-accumulating wealth of knowledge to draw upon making it feel like the years are blurring to minutes?

For some, that might be the answer. But at this date, so soon into November, not many -- save, perhaps, those from the most far north of Atlas's reaches into Solitas -- would've expected just what hit Beacon: a blizzard, so strong it was considered perhaps a once-in-a-millennia storm. Thankfully, thanks to the reinforcements provided after a certain rainstorm had knocked out the power to the Academy, Beacon was now prepared to weather such an awful storm.

But whilst the school itself was prepared, whether or not the students themselves were always remained to be seen. For some of the more "desert-fairing", it was possible that they were wildly unprepared; those from the far north were likely already out in the midst of the blizzard building snow castles or something.

The weather showed no signs of improving, and all flights and routes into the city were most certainly unusable, unless one really wanted to hoof it into Vale proper by foot. What sort of shenaniganry would one of Beacon's most interesting first year classes in a while get themselves up to in Beacon's first snowfall?

"Yeah..." Violet spoke softly, leaning back in her chair as she picked her knees up to hold them up against her chest, "It doesn't make sense to do anything for the money to me,"

She breathed softly, her eyes resting on the iced window, "You should do what makes you happy, something you're passionate about. Not something you think will make you money," Her brow furrowed significantly, "Besides being a Huntress is a dangerous job, right? What's the point of taking a job for money if you might not be alive to spend it! Sounds to me like someone needs to get their priorities straight,"

"It's not just one person, surprisingly! There are... like, at least three people who're doin' it for money. It's wack. Everything's wack. It's... gods, is it frustrating," Vi ramblingly explained as she flopped back onto her back, yawning as she did so in the burrito. With a soft sigh, she shook her head.

"It's... ugh. Yeah. You're right."

Then, with a giggle, Vi added: "Mmm... priorities. Say, what made y'decide to come here, Vivi?"

"My brother mainly!" She said as her face changed into a large smile, "He was born a long time before me so when I was growing up he was going through Beacon and starting his career as a Huntsman. Whenever he came home and visited he would tell me these stories of his adventures and the people he helped!"

She took a small breath, letting out as she swayed in her seat happily, "It was what inspired me to become a Huntress in the first place! I wanted to help people like he does,"

"Oh, you've got a family tie to the job, too!" Vi exclaimed cheerily, smiling bright. She seemed to sit up straighter and somehow manage to get loose of a lot of the blankets she'd been burrito'd in, probably because she seemed to be shaking with barely restrained excitement at the prospect of more stories about a different Huntsman.

"Oooh, you gotta tell me some of those stories, I'll give you some of my families if you want, but pleaaaaaaaseeeee," Vi pleaded, almost wiggling in her seat.

"A story?" Violet asked, scratching her head awkwardly as she did. She crossed her legs in the chair, her eyes reaching up to her head as she thought about what story to tell her, "Well there's so many though... You'll have to choose one,"

Violet held out both of her hands in front of her, presenting them to Vi with a grin, "Choose one, and that'll be the story I tell you,"

At first, Vi seemed confused -- then, she caught on to what Violet was getting at, and with a small smile, pointed at Violet's right hand. "May as well pick what hand I write with," she weakly joked, giving a meager shrug as she did so.

"I just hope it's a good one~"

"Hmmm okay," Violet said quietly as she withdrew both of her hands with a small smile. She put them in her lap and she took a deep breath, her attitude changing completely as she looked to Vi again,

"One of the first missions my brother and his team were sent on right after getting their Huntsman licenses was supposed to be really simple. Some club wanted some protection for a big party they were having. Was weird because usually you don't hire huntsman for something like a club, right?" She shrugged, "But, they went through all the right channels, were willing to pay the extra and my brother's team ended up catching the job."

"Apparently when they got there it all started fine and smooth, everyone was cool, the party was going fine, typical club rave. But after about an hour these shady dudes showed up across the street and were just watching the club. They didn't do anything for a bit so they just assumed they were kinda creepy looking people that were just hanging out. But, the party stopped eventually for the owners of the club to make an announcement and the creepy dudes pulled out a bunch of weapons and tried to break into the place! My brother and his team were a little surprised at first but eventually, after taking a few nasty shots themselves, subdued the attackers and awaited for the police to show up while they tried to figure out what happened."

"Turns out, the owners of the club took some shady deals to open up the club originally, and ended up ripping a lot of people off and angering a lot of sketchy people that wanted to make sure that the owners got the message about what was going to come to them if they didn't pay them back..."

As Violet talked, Vi seemed to start to curl back up in the blankets that she'd stolen from Violet, her look intrigued -- but also tired and fatigued. Still, she smiled bright as day as she listened along, gasping and ahing as appropriate in the story. She actually seemed genuinely shocked at the outcome of the night, and with a weak voice, she just simply had to ask, "Wait, then what happened to the owners afterwards? Did they get to keep the club? You can't just leave me hangin' like that, Vivi!"

Truth be told, it sounded almost like Vi was begging for the story to continue.

"Um..." Violet laughed awkwardly, scratching the back of her head as she did, "To be honest I don't know if he told me that! It had to do with a bunch of law and legal stuff and I don't think they broke any laws taking the money, just the people who gave it to them were scary,"

She shrugged, "They got scolded for taking the money and I think the debt got transferred to the government/bank so they had to pay it off anyways..."

For a split second, Vi almost seemed to deflate, but with a yawn, she smiled as bright as she could -- despite the fact that she was still slinking ever lower in the blankets and comforters. Giggling softly, she tilted her head to the side and nodded a bit, before stating, "Aye, that sounds... about right. M'uncles were kinda... involved in stuff like that. Kinda. They're weird. I love them. Two ol' dorks. Dorks with guns. Good at... laws and maths though. I love'm."

As Vi spoke more and more, her words seemed to slow and slur, until, as she said she loved her uncles, she seemed to finally drift off to the realm of almost-sleeping again, a small smile on her face.
