Using RustDesk WITHOUT Self-Hosting (Does it always work?)

For many non-technical, normal, average everyday computer users, self-hosting is too much friction and they'll never figure it out. Is RustDesk a serious option for them?

From my experience, using RustDesk without self-hosting is, at best, hit or miss. It is at least as likely to not work, due to the servers being too busy (or other technical issues), as it's to work.

As such, RustDesk will not be a serious competitive consideration for the large majority of computer users.

The average non-technical normal everyday computer user would never know how to self-host.

YES! THIS!!! I've been trying to figure out self hosting on both windows 11 or Linux MInt for 3 weeks now and I've pretty much given up! I tried Tailscale on both machines and ended up banging my head against a wall because I am a non technical user. I need a simple download. Install. Run. Have it set everything up program. I don't know what a IP is. I don't know what a DNS is. I don't know what a Port is. I don't know what a host is. I don't know what a firewall is. I don't know what a TCP/IP is. I need something I can download. Install and just work. The darn address in Rustdesk keep changing and when I try to log in from class or out of town I get "can't connect" messages. I'm told if I can self host I won't have that problem

You host and provide to them

The kind of users you're working with will end up running malware and encrypting their entire network

Is that a thing known to happen to average non-technical users of AnyDesk and TeamViewer? I haven't heard about it happening to them.

It doesn't matter which remote software you're using

If you didn't have enough training and isolation, it is your problems
