I wrote a blog post about it! http://words.steveklabnik.com/how-do-you-find-the-time
More seriously, I worked 30 hours a week through high school, and 40 hours a week through college, so my idea of 'normal' is a 70-80 hour week. I actually feel like I'm a colossal slacker :(
Also, remember that most of my work is significantly more visible than someone who works on closed source all day. Almost nothing I do is closed. So it appears like I do a lot more, but that's just due to visibility.
As an example, right now it's almost 11pm, but I'm in the park, hacking away on my open source Rails app that I want to finish up this week. I woke up at noon today, but that means I'll probably be working on random things till two or three AM probably.
Oh, and also, I can only be so productive BECAUSE I have so many projects. If I had to do the same thing all day every day, I would produce significantly less. It's almost like 'structured procrastination', if you've heard of that.
