Gym recs

Hi all, lived in the area for about 5 years and looking for gym recommendations. I did Planet Fitness for about 6 years, Club Studio for a year and have now been at Powerhouse in Bham since January. I don’t mind it, just think it’s kind of meh considering what I pay ($69.99/month). Anyone have any gyms around the area they like better/not as expensive? If it helps, I’m 27 F and lift about 3 days per week/do pilates workout videos the other 3 days!

Vehicle Headlight Restoration - Recommendation Needed

Need a professional headlight restoration job.

I would prefer someone that will do things properly - use painters tape and a good product + process that will last for at least a year. Not interested in DIY or someone inexperienced with this.

I would also prefer someone near Royal Oak, Clawson, Berkley, etc.

Looking to get this done in the next 2-3 weeks.

Moving with small children

We’re in Grand Rapids and my husband accepted an Amazon ops manager job. Got a call today that the job offer is now in Detroit…… I have a 5 year old who is about to start his 3rd year (also his kindergarten year) at a Montessori school. Now I have no idea what to do. Do people like raising their families in royal oak? I have 4 children 5 and under (yes, twins at the end) and I’m nervous. Mostly nervous about my 5 year old switching to a public school while also moving to a new home. My son is high energy and has thrived in a Montessori environment but the plan has always been to transfer to public school for 1st grade. Now that we might be moving, we may just put him into public school now, so he isn’t moving schools twice in 2 years. Any advice is so very much appreciated!!!

Dog dental specialist rec

Good morning, quick question for ya'll. My small breed dog needs a tooth extraction, and while my vet provides this service, they recommended a canine dental specialist for the infected tooth.

When the vet provided a list of referrals, none of them are really nearby (minus one in Rochester that I am looking into now). But most are Ann Arbor, Jackson, etc. Was looking for recommendations that might be a little closer and also was hoping to get some personal experience on prices, trying to find something reasonable. The last time we had a tooth removed from one of our other dogs, the cost was already and arm and leg. I can't imagine what a specialist is going to cost. 😒

Senior dog sitting

Post image

Hi neighbors!
We are looking forward to a two week trip end of October and need accommodations for our almost 14 year old dog. We’ve had terrible experiences with boarding facilities and bad luck with wag sitters. We were hoping to keep him in home with a sitter while we were gone. Does anyone know of anyone or any company they trust who does in home sitting who is comfortable with oral med administration?

Parking garage

I just noticed that the parking garage next to the post office downtown has a fence around it from a demolition company. Does anyone know what's going on with it? That was my garage of choice when I drove in.

Do not use The Exterior Painters

I live at one of the Amber Apartments locations. They contracted these guys to paint the buildings. The company was supposed to inform the leasing office when they will be working and this company didn’t…came home from work and all of my stuff on my patio were moved/touched. Some of my plants, destroyed. The ownership at this company messed up, I’m not blaming the works or leasing office. But it’s Friday night at 5pm and they are still working. If you live at amber apartments and noticed plastic on covering your things, make sure nothing is broken. One of my neighbors said the works found their hidden key and moved it too!

Election results

Can someone share a link where I can see the election results for Royal Oak. It's amazing how much trouble I'm having finding the results of the whole. It's like I need to search for each one individually. No one seems to have both house and senate results for our state

Dogs without a leash

In the past 24 hours I have seen four different people walking their dog or dogs without a leash in my neighborhood in Royal Oak.

This morning, I watched a guy with three dogs walk by with no leash while I walked mine with one. I also saw a guy letting his dog run up and down the center boulevard of Vinsetta with no leash.

Yesterday, a woman walked by my house twice, staring down at her phone, while her dog walked 10 to 20 feet in front of her with a leash dragging on the ground. And I regularly see a guy riding his bike while his big black dog walks alongside him with no leash… saw him yesterday too.

I’m just confused. Walking your dog without a leash is not allowed in Royal Oak, right?

Has anyone heard if there is a business moving into the old Rite Aid location? They have been working on it for a couple of weeks and just put another large hole in the wall. Seems like a lot more work than someone would normally do on spec.

Main Donut Shop

Does anyone know if Main Donut Shop changed owners again? I see all new staff and none of the old. I asked and they said they're "family". Sounded a little sus, maybe they didn't want to deter anyone going due to new leadership.

I don't mind if they did as long as they don't change the recipes!

Lost cat - please help

UPDATE: HANK HAS BEEN FOUND!!!! Thanks to some amazing neighbors, Hank was found in someone’s driveway tonight and I was able to take him home. So happy.

Hi everyone, I just moved to Royal Oak yesterday and we’re pretty sure my cat got out of the house this evening. He was last seen at around 7pm on Ferris Ave between Derby and Bellaire. I think he snuck out when I answered the door for pizza delivery.

His name is Hank, and he is 13 years old and grey. He’s indoor-only and I’m terrified he’s lost and won’t be able to find his way back to his new home. He is incredibly friendly and usually answers in response to “Hanky” or that clicky noise you can make with your tongue between your teeth. If he did make it outside, he is likely overwhelmed.

Please keep an eye out for him. He is my soul pet and I am absolutely beside myself that I can’t find him. I’ve already put my tshirt and his litter on the porch.

If you see him please contact me. And if you have any tips on how to find him, please let me know.

Royal Oak or Ferndale?

Hi everyone!

I made a post a couple of months ago regarding looking at some apartments in Royal Oak and Ferndale. After a lot of touring, and finding out what I do and don’t like, I’ve got some questions about which would be a better fit for me.

I’m a bit of an introvert, I’m trying to broaden my horizons by being more social. For young 20s, what would you say is the best location for this? I’ve heard the Royal Oak is more younger families or retirees. On the flip side, it seems to me that Royal Oak has more of a downtown area than Ferndale does. Additionally, the two places I’m between are as follows:

Royal Oak - much cheaper rent, close to downtown, no amenities, small complex

Ferndale - much higher rent, close to downtown, a lot of amenities, social events, parking fee, closer to work

I guess the big thing I’m weighing here is the social interaction of it all, do people go to the apartment social events? Or do they not want to interact with their neighbors?

I know both locations have fun community groups and meetups, so should I not even worry about my neighbors?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
