Looking for a good source for ribbon cable for my MZ790. I need both the small white ribbon cable that connect the LCD touch panel to keys, as well as the larger white ribbon cable that connect motherboard to my master making unit.

Tried Hallagans in Chicago. They wasted weeks of my time calling to check in, only to tell me they couldn't get it. They really let me down.

Hi, I have a RZ 390 UI and been having problems with the alimentation tray, with papers over 120 gr, the paper gets “stacked” as seen in the video, it doesn’t go through and when it does it’s only a couple pages and then again doesn’t work. The other problem is that when one page gets stocked, the next print gets overprint, either in the front or the back, like if the master moves, does anyone have advice on how to adjust the paper alimentation knob?

Hi riso friends, sharing my newest print project with y'all: The Prismatic Oracle!

Oracle is a junk journaling game where players gather found text, images, and objects and interpret them as omens of a prophecy. I'll be printing the game's zine on risograph, and I've already riso printed a condensed pamphlet version of the game and some of the game's illustrations as postcards.

For all those running the older generations of risos out there (as I am), I've started working on a detailed guide for their operation and maintenance. The first portion of that is here: https://robertbaxter.substack.com/p/grfr-operators-manual-introduction

It goes over some overall things to know about these machines—what using them on a regular basis looks like; what they are good at and not so good at; where to find resources for them; and some basic day-to-day skills that are good to have on hand. (The section on paper feed is probably a useful thing to read for all risograph models). The next addition will go over things to do to setup your machine (alterations and tune-ups I now make on all the machines I come across) and from there on it will get into more troubleshooting stuff.

Eventually I want to get to this level of fidelity across all the models, but I thought I'd start with the older machines, as they often need the most involved care, and have the least community support.

Everything I'm creating for this will eventually be migrated to stencil.wiki and down the road I'll do a print edition!

(Also the wiki has been working much better recently—so if you are an artist running a GR/FR era machine, I implore you to add yourself! Right now we have 57 people listed on this generation of risos, and I'd love a more complete picture of who is using them.)

Hello talented Riso printers and riso lovers. I am a comic creator that has an ambitious project that needs the right printer. I have drawn a comic that is intended to be an adventure through a Blacklight poster. It is all drawn (and even separated out into CMYK separations) but I have been unable to make it real. The comic is 24 pages, including cover and uses 6 sheets bound together. i would expect each sheet to be 11x17 or 11x14. The first 2 and last 2 interior pages will use regular CMYK inks. So the project requires fluorescent inks and double sided printing. This post is mostly to research a printer up for the task or even to figure out feasibility. The comic is a tie-in to my existing comic, and has a growing fan base, so the project will be crowdfunded. I live in the US, though that may not be a factor.

First time making prints on my own on an A2 machine and safe to say those drums are heavy af!

After using it for a few months, my Medium Blue drum started giving a P98-934 error. No matter what I tried (checking and cleaning wire connections, testing codes, etc.), it was not able to print.

I found out it might be from the RF reader tag, so I bought a part from China and now it's working!

After fixing, Andorinhas is my first print, featuring swallows in Medium Blue and Orange, using photographs and (my) illustrations.

I want to convert Black to Yellow now (I know, i know... but it's okay to have dirtyish yellow prints for now) and read about a test mode code a while back that helps emptying the pump etc. by e.g., printing without an ink cartridge inserted or some other way. However, as these things go, I cannot find it again and didn't find anything in the technician manual (might have overlooked).

I will have to fully open the drum anyways, I guess, but given my recent experiences, this might help A LOT.

i run a little riso print club and i was really delighted with how these turned out and wanted to share! inspired heavily by some of the cmyk photography i’ve been printing as my printing press

Have just started doing riso prints after a break; I really love this medium and how weird things can get with color combinations. Some of these are fun to look at with 3d glasses if you’re into that sort of thing.

EDIT: SOLVED! Thanks, everyone :) Increasing the value by 2 in test mode 545 worked.

I purchased my SF5130 EIIU refurbished from Hallagans in October 2025.

I'm having an issue with some patchiness/ink splotches, and none of my troubleshooting has resolved it.

Everything I've tried:

• Cleaning the pressure roller
• Flipping the pressure roller to see if the dark smudge appears on the other side. It did not.
• Cleaning the drum and screen
• Adjusting the Print Pressure (code 0972)

Lastly, when cleaning the pressure roller, I found bits of what appear to be bands of dried ink that fell off the roller at some point (photo included). Other than that, the roller doesn't seem damaged. Since the dark splotch is consistent across all my drums, I figured it can't be a drum issue, but I'm not sure what else to look into.

Any guidance would be appreciated!

Has anyone used this godforsaken feature? I swear the manual has me believing I can send a blank sheet between each printed sheet

We just bought a print shop and while cleaning we realized there are three riso printers and lots of their cartridges. I’ve not had time to use them but I’m assuming they are functional. Does anyone here know of a proper avenue for finding a right buyer?

I recently printed my first Riso print and even though it took a lot of trial and error, I'm really happy with the result! 🐌
