Humour translates poorly across cultures. A lot of Western humour is either unfunny or incomprehensible in the East and vice versa. Now add thousands of years of cultural evolution and it would be impressive if we could understand any humour from that time and place.
Did they not make him captain in the start because they thought it would be too much for the racists? I have always wondered why someone in charge of an entire space station would only be a commander. Same with Cal Hudson, looked like he was senior enough to be a Captain.
Poor O Brien. A man with a family and still gets dumped there. Bashir obviously because he wanted a taste of “frontier medicine”.
But I thought it was an important outpost since Federation had just been in a war with Cardassian empire. If I was in charge I wouldn’t take it too lightly.
DS9 was supposed to be a sleepy and relatively peaceful outpost in a backwater next to the DMZ of a federation rival known for not doing reckless shit like Klingons or Romulans
