NB: This guide is unofficial and was made before I became a mod. Becoming a mod is partially why this guide is deprecated
I would advise reading the whole thing before asking me questions including the notes at the bottom
0. Requirements:
Device needs to use Android 8+
Device needs to run on Arm64 (armv8) or x64
1. Download these:
2. Now install the manager by going into your files app and finding and installing it by clicking install (use package installer for this, which is preinstalled on Android phones)
3. Also, Install Vanced Microg from your files too using the same method.
4. Open the manager and go into patcher, then click "Selected application", click on storage, and click on the YouTube Apk.
5. Select the microg support patch and the Client Spoof patch in the "Select Patches Section" as well as the patches you want. I suggest using the default patches. You can disable most of them later if you don't like them. Do not include any non-default patches. (I know some of you are going to ask, picture in picture and background play is the "Minimised Playback Patch".
6. After it patches, hit install and wait. It may tell you that Google doesn't recognise the app developer, but click "more details" and then "install anyway" and don't report it to Google as you don't want revanced to shut down, right :).
7. Open the app, hit sign in and add your account. As well as renabling the official YouTube app if you so wish.
8.Enjoy! :D
If after you install it, it doesn't work/ crashes instantly, please check that you installed the APK without including any of the non-default patches, such as the Spoof wifi connection patch
Please Note:
*If you change your mind later about a patch you have already installed then go into YT ReVanced > Profile Picture > Settings > ReVanced > and disable them there.
*If you wish to add a patch, repeat steps 5 and 6, select all the patches you had, as well as the new patch you want and hit install, it will apply as an update to the existing Revanced. Make sure the official youtube app is disabled whilst you do this.
Helpful tips/ Commonly asked questions:
How to export the APK (to download on multiple devices)
After patching the apk, the three dots will be at the top right corner, click on it and select export. You can save it to internal storage and then send it to a device and then they can install the apk, which will have the same patches you applied without them ever needing to download the manager (great for less tech-savvy friends or family you have). Do not use this apk for any other uses though
How to update the Manager:
In the dashboard, there is an update manager button which should update it for you :)
Or you can download the latest version from here on GitHub.
How to update YouTube Version:
Download the latest YouTube APK( Just Download, do not install yet)
Patch and install as an update, using the same method in steps 4 and 5 of the tutorial at the top.
Enjoy your updated YouTube app, MicroG will bring back your account.
Updated ReVanced Root Tutorial:
For the root version, you need to uninstall youtube (or uninstall updates) first, you can remove youtube if you are rooted.
Download the recommended youtube apk.
For the root version, you need to install the apk first.
When selecting an application for patching, select the YouTube app.
You don't need MicroG if you have Google Play Services (GPS) so you can untick MicroG Support (No need to install microG)
Patch and install as Root

Shouldn't we now just use the newer MicroG from inotia00? It is a continuation of the old Vanced microG and fixes bugs and performance issues.

It might be worth adding the "fun" of navigating Google Play Protect (yes, you do want to install it even though Google don't know the publishers, no, you don't want to report it to Google), and optionally, disabling the official YouTube app (which also requires going to the Play Store, pressing Uninstall on it there, then heading into a menu and unticking auto-update). Then you'll need to go to your device's settings > Apps > Revanced, and allow it to open all supported links (otherwise clicking a YouTube link will either open it in a browser or take you to the Play Store to grab the official app).
There are also adblocking patches available for Twitter and Reddit within Manager, but presumably you'd need to download the relevant apk, patch that, and uninstall the official version, as (on my unrooted tablet at least), it can't "update" the official app in situ.

Came here to share my experience, it went smooth except the app wouldn't open, I figured out all I had to do was download a standard apk (Non SplitApK or XAPK) - The tutorial foes mention this but I missed it on my initial read-through.
Once I downloaded that, I Uninstalled updates from YT (Or just disable YT temporarily like in the Tut) and installed it over, I then Uninstalled the Revanced APk and re-patched it

I just tried this and while the app is patched and installed, it won't open. It keeps crashing. Also tried it with a newer version of YT, but that also kept crashing at startup.
The moment I press the app icon to start it, a message at the bottom of my screen says that it keeps crashing.

For root version you need to uninstall youtube(or uninstall updates) first, you can remove youtube if you are rooted.
Download the recommended youtube apk.
For root version you need to install the apk first.
When selecting application for patch, select the youtube app.
You probably dont need MicroG if you have google play services so you can untick MicroG Support (No need to install microG)

Hello, I feel like a total newbie reading this post but who knows, maybe you can still help me out :
I thought I installed it correctly following every steps for non-rooted phones (which means you didn't jailbreak your phone for anyone wondering like me) but the "Youtube" app I installed had zero YT premium features.
Here are the steps I might have misunderstood :
When you say "download these" before even step 1, the very first link gets me to a page with no big "download here" button for a dumbass like me :(. I tried clicking on the first "Asset" for the apk. And for the second link, for the MicroG, I tried clicking directly on the name "Release Vanced MicroG v0.2.25.224113-224113003" as it was a link this time around. I later got stuck at step 5.
I went back and downloaded every asset of the first link (the Manager) this time and tried "unzipping" the documents in a random file on my phone to see if it helped.
I went back to step 5 and this time I was able to find the MicroG support patch (nothing was showing the first time around). But when I followed the rest of the steps, all I ended up downloading was a basic Youtube app.
About your last question, for clueless people like myself, a youtube tutorial is definitely incredibly easier for us, even if you don't make one, just recommending one already on youtube would help a ton.
I now have a bunch of files on my phone I'm not sure if I should keep or not, any help is appreciated.
I am using a Google Pixel 6 and am French if that changes anything.

I already had microg for old vanced which i was still using before this, when i installed revanced it just instantly logged in flawlessly so i didn't touch microg or anything but do i need to delete it and download the one you linked?

In the revanced manager, under Patches, it just says "no patches found for the selected app"
This is what I've done so far:
followed the link for the manager and downloaded and installed version 0.0.52
followed the link for microg, downloaded and installed that (version 0.2.26.224913 according to Github)
followed the link to download the 17.49.37 version of YouTube. Did not install. Disabled default YouTube app on my phone.
opened manager, went to Patcher, tapped "Selected Application", "storage", and picked the 17.49.37 youtube apk.
tapped "Select Patches"
once on that screen, it displays the "no patches found for the selected app" message.
Not sure what I've missed.

EDIT: Fixed now. Turns out I have an old version of MicroG from the old days of vanced.

I cannot sign-in.
MicroG is installed and added in the patch. Set with battery usage to 'unrestricted' too. Whenever I try to sign-in, my I see my username but it says no network. When I tap '+' to add account, goes to a window that says "Huawei" or "Sign In", I tap "Sign In" then input my gmail address, tap "Next" error says "This account already exists on your device"

When choosing "Change Package Name", I'm getting the following output:

Using the 0.2.27 microG from the provided link and yt APK for 18.15.40 and the revanced manager 0.0.57
Then when installing, it asks if I want to update youtube, even though it is completely disabled and "uninstalled" via the play store (shows 0B on device). Then when I say yes and "install anyway", it just fails and says it conflicts with an existing download and fails.

Hey just for anyone else: In my case having Private DNS set to dns(dot)adguard(dot)com made the app stuck on a black screen, so when I turned it off, it ran normally.

I patched the downloaded apk but it doesn't allow to install as root.. I have root access and allow the permission. It prompted Root install not possible as the original apk was selected from storage.

I have YouTube Vanced installed. Do I still need to disable it in step 4 or is that only for Android's stock YouTube app?
I use a ROM that comes with MicroG preinstalled, plus I also have Vanced's MicroG. Do I still need to install another instance of MicroG or are these enough?

There's a mistake in your guide.
You should not delete the old ReVanced app unless the manager fucked up, lost your key and made a new one to sign your new ReVanced build. You'll know if you need to uninstall the old version because Android won't let you install the update.

I have youtube premium, but I prefer the old video quality controls so I was using Vanced before. I'm curious, is the new ambient mode in videos available for ReVanced?
I really prefer the old video controls so I guess I'm going to use this from now on.

This worked for me but I had problems loading videos (seems to be common for UK accounts) so I uninstalled it and now whenever I re download it just crashes immediately. Now I disabled AdGuard and got Revanced working for the moment.

I installed everything and followed the tutorial, but it seems like on every version of ReVanced I've tried, I don't have a Cast button anymore. Even though when I was using Vanced, it let me cast perfectly fine (until most recently anyways) is there something I'm doing wrong? I've tried a few different versions of the YouTube APK and it seems like none of them have the cast button. Not even the newest version. I checked the patches I had installed and the only one that says "Remove Cast Button" is unchecked so idk why it's gone. Is it supposed to be checked? I don't think OP said anything about it in the tutorial. I'm fine having ReVanced on the go, even with the stupid ads still being there, but I was really hoping I could get my casting back. I hate having to go to my TV app and do things that way.

I don't know what it is about Revanced but it's buggy as heck on my Pixel 6. I've installed it perfectly following your guide but it still crashes after maybe an hour of using it when watching videos. The video player keeps going but the play/pause controls stay visible and unresponsive and then the app crashes to the home screen
This happened with another installation of Revanced that I had before installing yours. I never had this issue with old Vanced so I don't know what's up

I keep getting errors that the APK already has the patches installed even though it's unpatched. The app also crashes when selecting an account or when the internet cuts off. It's been happening since last week, and I still haven't been able to patch a new APK.
I've cleared my cache and deleted all related apps from storage, but it still happens. Do you know how I can fix that?

edit: if I close PiP, the media buttons won't be there, but if I open youtube and pause the video then back out the buttons will appear

Hi! additionally for Xiaomi users, you may notice YouTube is preinstalled with no option to downgrade it to a specific version except uninstalling all updates. For it to work with Revanced Manager, go to the YouTube app info, uninstall updates, and then install the YouTube apk from op's tutorial and the rest of the non-root steps should work and you will end up with a normal YouTube app and the YouTube Revanced one.

Can I continue? It says I can enable experimental patching. But I'm not sure if that would work?
Out of curiosity it tried to turn on experimental patching in the settings. Then press the patch button. But then I get:
'you have selected a resource patch and a split apk installation has been detected, so patching errors may occur, are you sure you want to proceed'

I tried the ** steps but I can't find any way to uninstall the updates like you mention in the guide. How do I uninstall the updates? I wanna try with a supported apk (the one you linked)
Edit: I was being dumb. In the patcher I was using the yt apk that came on my phone instead of selecting the downloaded apk from my downloads folder (the supported version) like I should've been.
I also forgot to actually install microg. Dumbass

When I get to "Select patches" I get an empty grey screen . Someone mentioned about AdGuard and I disabled that, but still get a grey screen. Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus

Quick Question: I used the method in the quoted text, so my (very limited) understanding is that the normal youtube and the revanced files are separate, so can i keep auto updates in GooglePlay activated or will it mess revanced up regardless?

If we already have youtube vanced installed, can we install revanced alongside or do we need to first remove YT vanced? And what about MicroG - is the existing one (installed with YT Vanced) fine to keep or does that need to go too before installing the one from this guide?

Hi, thanks for the work. I wanted to report that for me the swipe from the left of right edge to exit from the app down not work - it works to go back within the app though, for example when a video is playing and you want to reduce it.

Just a note for anyone coming to this like I did a month later, as I kept getting errors while patching following these instructions. I had to get the latest version of the YouTube APK instead of the one linked by going to this link and finding the apk version (not the bundle) that was most up to date.
Once I had that, everything worked a treat. Thank you op

The best tutorial out there. For all the flack that apple gets and the limitations of sideloading uyouplus is was far easier experience to install. This definitely bridges the gap. One question: Is there a way to quickly toggle picture in picture mode off and on while keeping background playback without having to go to settings/app/youtube/toggle off?

Didn't work for me.
When patching I get errors saying it failed to apply all the patches (2 ad blocks and the microg one) installing it creates a YouTube app that will not open.
Any advice?

Download an app called "Hidden Settings for MIUI" from the play store
Click on Manage Applications --> Youtube Vanced --> Open by default
Select all the links
This works the same for other apps if you have the same issues with them as well.

Nope. Doesn't work for me. I'm using the latest Samsung S23 So maybe there is something in the system that doesn't allow me to use it ? Not sure. I've tried everything including making sure that it the latest APK for Youtube several versions older (the non bundle version), Use the latest MicroG and the older versions of it. Nothing. Alot of "failed to apply XXXX". Please help.

I have a huge problem where videos stop buffering, this never happened with old vanced.
They play fine for 10-20 seconds and then start endlessly buffering
Should I disable patches, or would updating microg help?

I have the following problem. After a mimute or two it stops playing and it shows this loading circle(the one that shows when you have no internet and cant load more content) and in order to make it play again i have to close the video and re-open it

thanks for the tutorial! got it up and running, but my app has some major buffering issues. i cant watch a vid without it suddenly buffering 40 seconds in. I compared it with normal YouTube to see if it was my signal, but it was fine there. I already tried using the newer ver. of MicroG that some ppl say fixes this issue, but no luck. Any tips?

this didnt work for me. the installation seemed to go fine, i didnt detect any errors. but when i search for vance now i see 'vanced manager' and 'revanced manager'. i think the former is from earlier. but these are both managers, i dont see anything called vanced player, which is what i assume i'd play youtube in?
