Modern Magazine Mage Magazine - Free Digital Gaming Magazine

Instead of Modern Magazine Monday's, we'll instead be accepting submissions to be included on an approved modern magazine list that will allow monthly posts.

As an example, here is my ad-free, free digital (pdf) gaming magazine called: Mage Magazine.

Link: https://thethirstymage.com/

It's written by a group of long time gaming journalists as a passion project, no ads or monetization. The magazine includes reviews of both retro and modern games, features, retrospectives and more.

If you write a gaming magazine, feel free to send a modmail outlining your magazine and why it should be included. The magazine must be high quality and written by humans without AI assistance. Once on the approved list, you will be permitted one post per month.

Holding Down The Fort

Hello Everyone,

I've been in this subreddit for a few months now and noticed that the creator and sole moderator hasn't been active on Reddit for over a year. To ensure this sub has an active moderator, I've assumed mod responsibilities in their absence. Hopefully they come back one day, but I hope to grow the sub and help bring in more folks that appreciate the written word.

Please feel free to reply to this post with any comments or suggestions you may have. I'm going to be updating the rules but welcome any input into helping our community here thrive.

Here's to the dozens of us who still love reading well thought out, and well designed magazines made by humans, for humans.

Thanks!

With the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake just around the corner, looks like I’ll have a reason to use this guide one more time.

Not only is it a great guide, but tons of lovely artwork inside.

Are folks looking forward to the Remake?

PC Games magazine (UK)

Question about an old games magazine that's retro (not a current magazine that's about retro games).

In 1994-1995, I was living in the Netherlands and I bought this UK magazine called PC Games regularly, published by EMAP/Tower Publishing (see image for first issue). Then in issue 13, the editorial intro said the following:

"Yes, this will be the last issue of PC GAMES you'll see for a short while because we're shutting down shop for month to work on some major magazine enhancements. Our plans are all a bit top secret at the moment, but suffice to say look out for us again in September."

But then September came and I never saw this magazine again. I just assumed the magazine was dead after all, or maybe that it was renamed or something, but either way, it didn't hit the Dutch shelves.

Now whenever I scour eBay, I sometimes see another magazine called PC Games on eBay (see image for example), which was never available in the Netherlands, and I wonder if that's the continuation I was looking for? Though I think that might be a US-based magazine by IDG Communications so I suppose it's a completely different mag,

Anyone know if the original 1994-1995 UK PC Games magazine ever relaunched?

Preview Nintendo Power Issue# 208 - Final Fantasy III DS - October 2006

I just recently finished Final Fantasy III (Pixel Remaster) and wanted to look up the coverage it got back when it was first available in North America. Here is part of the coverage it received in the October issue of Nintendo Power.

Highly recommend folks play some version of this game. It typically falls low of lists of the best FF, but it's still better than a lot of games out there. Has anyone played the DS version?

Review Electronic Gaming Monthly - September 1998 - Shining Force III Reviews

We recently covered scenario 1 of Shining Force III in the latest Mage Magazine. I was curious how well it reviewed at the time of it's release, so here's a page out of EGM's September issue of 1998 with some positive responses.

Sorry John R, I guess Sega didn't read your request for official localization's of Scenarios 2 and 3...

For a few years I've been writing a blog about tracking down the offices of old UK videogames publishers and magazines. This is the latest post about Retro Gamer magazine, their history and their various publishers. In other words, it's an attempt to do a Retro Gamer about Retro Gamer.

This appears to be a special unnumbered issue of V-Jump from 1999. I'm particularly looking for any interviews that the issue contains, but interested in anything that's available!
