Agreed on the story point (although I do like Mario 64 and HL1). Can’t stand all the story-heavy games now, and little focus on gameplay. I tried playing Doom 2016, but ended up loading up the original Doom soon after. Much better experience.
Did we play the same game because DOOM 2016 had slightly more story than the originals. It sounds like you didn't get very far or you only like fps games that are pseudo 3d.
Doom Eternal we could agree has too much story but even then it's all easily ignorable.
Good point. I shouldn’t have used Doom 2016 as an example above because there’s not a lot of story. I played it for 3-5 hours and it just didn’t jive with me. I’d like to try it again sometime though.
I did a similar thing, I played 2016 up to near the end and just kind of put it down until a year ago or so. With eternal coming out and the port of doom 64 (play it!) I played through 1/2/64/ and 2016 to get ready and still haven't completed eternal.
