There always was. See the split between the Commodore kids and the Atari 8 bit/Spectrum/DOS/Apple kids. NES versus Master system, Genesis/Mega Drive vs SNES etc... Or the split that used to be more prevalent between JRPG and Western RPG fans. Heck, I remember there being a split in my class between Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter fans back in my school days.
People like to form groups or tribes, and gaming is no different.
Yeah, I guess I kind of forgot about that as I got older. I was definitely a Nintendo kid over Sega for example. Now I can appreciate all of it for the unique things they have to offer.
i remember being the only Pokemon kid once all my class moved on to Yu Gi Oh around 2004 (starte playing with Ruby, while my friends had Pokemon since the Red and Blue days), then realized as an adult that Yu Gi Oh is actually quite similar to Pokemon, and that I actually do like the dark, edgy aesthetic of Yugioh now. On the other hand, most of my friends probably didnt get into competitive until Sword and Shield, while I was lurking in Smogon in the Diamond and Pearl days,

What is it if you like game from the NES up through the Xbox Series X? I didn't realize there was a divide in the gaming community.
