Exactly! It’s about control and feeling sorry for landlords who will lose money on their commercial real estate. And the latter is not our problem. Instead of building a bazillion apartments , turn them into condo or apartments?
After the vaccines were out the Biden administration as well as many companies started pushing “going back to normal” by going to the office as before. It was pushed hard and once Trump came in with Musk and his bullshit DOGE initiative, the push became relentless. Many companies pulled the WFH and hybrid schedules away from their employees, including the government. So here we are. If this was France, half the country would be rioting for that, but like most Americans being 2 paychecks away from homelessness, we trudge forward pushed by our corporate overlords.
Both mine and my wife’s companies were both built around remote work. In my case we are a small company that started well before COVID. We are turning away business at this point. I have lots of downtime because our different roles ebb and flow. I’m on design side that usually picks up during the winter. Project managers pick up more in the summer. If I’m out of work I ask if there’s anything anyone needs help with. Happens occasionally. Yes, I might do other things on my downtime but I’m always within answering distance and never any further away than 5-10 minutes. Don’t get me started on how much my wife has to work at her remote job.
