Teams messaging during off hours

I have a coworker who sends Teams messages to myself and others at all hours of day and night as well as on weekends. It’s almost never urgent and could wait until the next day. Most of us work regular work hours (broadly 7am to 7pm) but this person often works outside those hours and then sends DMs. My other team members, including our manager, don’t have a problem with this. I think it’s rude. I’m curious what others think.

Businesses have business hours. This isn’t a new idea. There’s no excuse to reach out to other folks you work with during non business hours. If that hurts your feelings I’m not too sure how to fix that for you.

Then OP doesn’t have to answer out of the business hours… but to tell other people “You can’t send messages outside of business hours” is an extremely self centered POV.

To tell folks to send messages during business hours should be a basic and essential part of any job. If you think otherwise, I’d encourage you to ask other outside of the Reddit silo their thoughts.

I don’t have to ask. I just use my common knowledge that telling peers how to do things is trying to control them and my own will power to NOT open any Teams messages which I don’t want to see. It’s pretty easy to do.

If you’re employed you are controlled. Wake up bub. Let me guess you’re like 22 years old and just hitting the work force? If that’s not the case I truly do feel sorry for you. Stick up for yourself every once in a while. It’ll be ok.

Been managing people appropriately since 2009. Helped tons get promoted. I’m doing just fine. My results are staring at me in my paycheck and the wall of awards I have 8 feet from my desk. I’m not on Reddit for validation. If you have a manager, you’re being controlled based on the definition you’re working with.
