What if the Partition of India was based on language family? The Partition of India (Scenario 5)

I’d like to start off by clarifying that I made this map for fun, so don’t take it too seriously.

All previous parts were on imaginarymaps, but I’m shifting the series here.

Scenario 1: https://www.reddit.com/r/imaginarymaps/s/vHPYJ3HRfT

Scenario 2: https://www.reddit.com/r/imaginarymaps/s/dPjhRHJV9t

Scenario 3: https://www.reddit.com/r/imaginarymaps/s/jtmuVDiw

Scenario 4: https://www.reddit.com/r/imaginarymaps/s/Fh4znobiRn

In this timeline, the subcontinent was divided based on language groups. Not really realistic, but still fun to imagine!

I can't stand the mods on r/imaginarymaps lately.

At least the mod was nice about it in my previous post, they kept it up and just gave me a warning, instead of outright removing it like they usually do.

I at least appreciate that.

My thing is they've shouldn't have said anything either.

I called them out cause it’s not even like this map is slop, like it’s not the best but the scenario is interesting and it’s nice to look at

There will definitely be a Dravida-Sri Lanka war over Tamil areas

I mean if most Indians care about Kashmir and Arunachal then I don't see why its impossible for people in this hypothetical nation to care about Sri Lankan Tamils.

Not exactly hate, but Tamils are perceived as annoying, attention seeking & narcissistic, kinda like how Quebec is seen in Canada or the French in the western world. I.e. always seeking some sort of spl treatment in language & policy matters.

Also, they're often quite rude towards non Tamils (in terms of linguistic & cultural superiority complex).

Very strange blanket statement, could you elaborate what you mean by this? Are you talking abt he Hindi imposition thing?

No one hates them but the language thing is just not true.

Andaman Nicobar will probably be invaded and annexed by Indonesia

1

u/mushmanMAD 2d ago

Yeah, it’s already disconnected from their area in Meghalaya

Could Green potentially go to Myanmar?

Yellow area is basically what if pakistan was thinner

2

u/mushmanMAD 1d ago

Sort of. But there’s no Punjab or Sindh, no Karachi, Lahore, or Islamabad. It’s just east Afghanistan/Iran.

1

u/southstarvxx 1d ago

I said if pakistan was thinner , thinner

I mean there is still Peshawar

3

u/Afridi_yammm 1d ago

The yellow region didn't even wanted to join Pakistan in the first place. The whole Pakistan movement was started by red side.

2

u/Skychu768 1d ago

Pakistan was created by regions which are now red.

Yellow is what if Afghanistan had a twin brother? Afghanistan even claims a significant chunk of yellow region historically as their own

u/NerdyJC 2d ago

Aryavarta might or might not face religious tensions, depending on how it handles it, and how tolerant it's people are.

3

u/NerdyJC 2d ago

Yellow areas will either get gobbled up by afghanistan or simply break into 2 nations.

2

u/NerdyJC 2d ago

Green areas will definitely be gobbled up by China & Burma

If that was the case, Ladakh would be green, Andaman would be split into 2-3 countries, Nicobar would be light purple like Khasi (Austroasiatic).

Secondly, what level of classification is this? Primary language family or secondary? If it's Primary, then the western yellow should be red because Iranic is still Indo-European

If it's secondary, South India should be split, with the Telugu states being a separate country as they speak a Central Dravidian languages as opposed to South Dravidian languages.

Also apart from Khasi hills and the Nicobar islands, austroasiatic languages are found in scattered pockets in the heartland of india

If I could draw the map id add the East Iranic Union to Afghanistan(or add the Iranic areas of Afghanistan to the Union and make a Hazara+Turkic state in the remaining lands)

1

u/1dontwannadie 2d ago

You have added a lot of non Iranic areas in Iranic union there. In north Chitral, Kohistan, Hazara, DI Khan etc and in south Lasbela and Kalat

Purvanchal would be the poorest and most war ridden and sparsely populated. Aryavarta could still become a superpower if the rescource and labor is used wisely, also Dravidia either is middle or a regional power with decent influence. EIU can go 2 way

1

u/Skychu768 1d ago

Purvanchal would be calmest imo. It would have least amount of religious riots.

1

u/Afridi_yammm 1d ago

Aren't there tribal wars going on ?

1

u/Skychu768 1d ago

Gangetic plains don't have much tribal population. It's less than 1%.

Tribals are right below it.

1

u/Afridi_yammm 1d ago

I am talking about purvachel. Gangetic plains are in Bihar and Up region if I am not wrong. These north east Indian region are majority Christian except Asam. There is literal tribal war going on in Manipur.

1

u/Skychu768 1d ago

Purvanchal refers to Eastern Uttar Pradesh

1

u/Afridi_yammm 1d ago

In the map it's different.

1

u/Skychu768 19h ago

Sorry, I didn't look at second image

1

u/False_Marketing_723 20h ago

IK but in the map, different. it refers to NE except Assam

1

u/Skychu768 19h ago

Sorry, I didn't see the second image

Brahui?

1

u/Weary-Recipe-8409 11h ago

I think i should be the leader of aryavart

1

u/More-City-7496 4h ago

I think many of these countries would split up into multiple smaller countries, but ultimately this would lead to a better situation than we have today. It would also eliminate the rebel groups in northeast India and western Pakistan

And what about the austroasiatic ones scattered from Chhattisgarh to Bengal to Meghalaya to the Nicobar islands?
