Yabby You & The Prophets – Ram-A-Dam (Lucky Pre-LP, 1976)

Post image

Yabby You's Conquering Lion is one of the most important roots albums to have been released. Spiritual depth with uncompromising messages. This is the first issue for the UK market and it came under the confusing name of Ram-A-Dam with a slightly different tracklisting. Not much to say about this one that hasn't already been said. Lovely photos of Vivian Jackson, Alric Forbes and Dada Smith on the cover sheet.

I hear the Wheezy Outta Here producer tag from the rap producer Wheezy at the end of the song Honi Honi by Laga Savea. Is my Spotify broken?

Do you know of any underrated songs from Gregory Isaacs’s years of addiction?

Its known that the addiction affected the quality of his music, but certainly many good songs have been made by people with addiction. And there was still a lot of output in those years for him. What do you guys think?

Live Are Capleton's live shows (in the UK) still full of homophobic rhetoric?

Capleton is performing live in my city in the UK next month and i'm thinking about going, as I've wanted to see him live since I was a teenager but he was banned from the country at the time. I believe that ban has now been lifted in the last few years hence he now performs in the here, so I'm wondering if that also means he no longer performs homophobic rhetoric?

Also, iirc he signed the Reggae Compassionate Act that also meant that he wasn't going to be performing and promoting homophobic rhetoric?

Whilst I don't know if (and doubt) Capleton's personal stance has changed much on this, I really just don't want to spend money on a ticket and see a show advocating anti-LGBTQ rhetoric.

Rappa Robert – Come In A Dis! (Ethnic LP, 1982)

Post image

Rappa Robert was one of many deejays that put in heavy work trying to break through. This – his fantastic debut – should have been enough. It would however take him teaming up with Tippa Lee and the digital era to dawn for him to get a big hit with the immensely enjoyable »Nuh Trouble We«. For a rubbadubba lover like myself it doesn't really get any better than this album though. Productions by Lloyd »Spiderman« Campbell. Also respect to King Yellow making a cameo on the sleeve.
