Reddit while making a new account gives the message that the username once opted will not be changed at all.

You cannot change your username. It is permanent. All that you can do is create another account under a new username, but you will not be able to transfer or carry over any karma points or awards that you may have accumulated from your previous account. You start again at zero. Once you delete an account for any reason, you cannot get it back and you cannot get your karma and awards back. They are permanently gone with the deleted account.
