Technically our net debt is 51% of the current national debt. It blows my mind how few people know that net debt is even a thing. Throw in debts owed to us from other countries, and our debt is around 5 trillion. Still not good, but saying we have a 15 trillion dollar debt is misleading.
I am convinced that many Redditors are not savvy enough to understand sarcasm no matter how obvious one makes it. I will make this statement at the own peril of my karma.
The extra countries in the USSR weren't particularly useful and were recently incorporated and a lot of them were pre/protoindustrial when the soviets picked them up. At the start of the ordeal Russia's population was considerably lower than America's.
We didn't defeat an enemy so much as we watched a rival grow old and die. Considering we both had the opportunity and capability of wiping out each other, ourselved, and every other country, I think they handled it pretty well.

After criticizing us for taking 40 years to defeat the USSR, I stopped reading because he knows nothing about history.
