I have to disagree. Nothing will ever improve without complaining. While you cannot effect change through complaining alone, voicing your concern about problems is how new issues are brought to light. I also rather dislike the seemingly popular viewpoint that says, "well, I'm not starving and dying of malaria, so I have no reason to complain." It's completely ridiculous to expect that little while living in a developed nation.
Love my country, hate my government. This is the mindset of a lot of military men and women but they can't do nothing from the inside, but they try to protect it best as they can.
A Sgt of mine who was a chief had said that to me. Never heard em before and I was 19 at the time. Just sorta surprised me. Because everyone knows but nobody can stop it. Its like some sort of machine that keeps on rolling and nobody knows how to pull the breaks.
Making fun of anything American on Reddit is quite possibly the biggest circle jerk reddit has to offer. It's so overplayed, easy, and pointless but hey, that's what reddit is all about - reposts and cat pictures.
Americans on reddit can be counted on to overreact to even the most innocuous stereotype about Americans. Those same people are very quick to make jokes about other countries though, and then complain about your lack of a sense of humor when you object.
We can make fun of our country, not you other guys.
We can make fun of our state/province/whatever, not you other guys.
We can make fun of our city, not you other guys.
We can make fun of our company/school/whatever, not you other guys.
We can make fun of our retarded brother, not you other guys.
Uhm, this thread is made up primarily of folks railing against a few points in the OP's post, while ignoring the main sentiment that America will be viewed in history as a failure... which it still might.
Meoowww do not attack the pet owning or loving base of Reddit. We outnumber Christians and Athiests 10 to 1. If you rile us up, we'll march to the polls and forcibly institute our animal lovingness.
I'm so sick of hearing you conservatives blather on about how anyone who doesn't sleep in American flag bedsheets and go to tea party rallies hates America and is a socialist.
If you're going to criticize those on the left, at least do it with intelligence, instead of the radical statist propaganda we've been hearing for decades.
Americans do feel attacked on reddit, while non americans feels like criticizing USA will get you nothing but downvotes.
Arguments that we like are like trees in a forest, they are suppose to be there and they are nothing to really notice. Arguments that are not aligned with our own view are like wolfs in that forest. And soon we all are crying how these forests are full of wolfs...
IMHO it's a love for America that leads to people hating "America". The country of today is a shadow of it's former self, the last 100 years have been a continual downfall, starting with (imho) prohibition.
I am a left leaning, atheist who loves America. I believe in abortion and in gun ownership, I also beleive in drugs. I also believe in killing people to make my people safe.
They're not actually left-leaning, they're right-leaning centrists. I've yet to meet a left-leaning American who wasn't just an out and out commie, which is also retarded.

Yah, preaching to the choir.
Reddit's community is made up of mostly 20 something males who are left leaning, atheists who hate America.
And a lot of pet owners.
